yeah, this sucks for sure!

I am in two stages of following you, in roadrunner and here. I highly doubt BMW will do anything for you guys. They like selling stuff but not support after, my buddy had a new F800gs with some issues and they would not do a thing.

So, I hope the inmates can get you out of the bind. the frame looks tweaked at the front as well...man, you are lucky to be walking away from that one.

You 2 are certifiable ha ha! hang in there....pack up the bikes, come to newfoundland and relax for a while...ha ha.

take care!

parts for Simon's GS

Hey Guys, why don't you post up the parts you need to fix your bike, I am sure many of us fellow GS riders could help out with OEM takeoffs and whatnot

Let us know
Cheers

I hope that I am not speaking out of turn, but, why not effect a minimal repair?

New bars, strip all fairing, get all electrics repaired (even if they are sealed units I bet all over S.E.A there is a repair guy), rig and wire some spurious part headlamp, get into some bike breaker places. May find everything secondhand.

I hope it works out.

Evening all,

well, my leg is throbbing and my ribs aren't feeling clever but the discomfort is worth it having just spent the day amongst a local hill tribe here in Malaysia. I'll post some photos soon.

It was a geat way to leave the headache of pain med's and bike fixing behind if just for a little while. So back that subject, thanks to everyone for you advice and support. Lets kick this off properly with a little '2RTW Video', yep keeping with her good form Lisa made sure to photograph and video my during my time of pain and angst . She apologises to you blood thirsty lot that she didn't get a photo of me actually under the Hilux, but considering the driver moved the vehicle whilst I was still under it, pretty damn quick I think we can forgive her! Here's what happened...

OK, for those that want to know the sad and gory truth, here's what we're looking at trying to sort for the bike, by the way I'm two very large gins into the post, which is mixing well with the pain med's

We used the online micro ficshe at ASCycles website to turn up these number. Basically all the parts we need should be for an 2002 R1150GS ADV

These are our notes and I'm too tired to pretty the notes up so I hope they make sense?

Some of these numbers cover R1100RT/R1100GS/R1150GS and R1150GSA. Must make sure when ordered that the correct bike part is requested – ie don’t leave it to any dealer as your bike is all sorts of bikes!!!

51162313530 right mirror R1100GS $69.22 (The mirror should be the same as the 1150GS ADV)
61312306178 electrical for R1100rt...check it out. $181.81..??? don’t think correct.
11121342684 R1100gs/1150GS cylinder head. $653.12 check if your year R1150gsadv is same.....
32712331876 HIGH HANDLEBAR F HEATER HAND for R1100gs $299.37..?? where are the actual handlebars on this list??

31422314505 fork head upper (needs to be stipulate which model 1100-1150 or GSA etc) $580.05
31422338223 fork bridge (stipulate which model ie 1150 or GSA) $478.25
31427661689 fork slider (stipulate which model ie 1150 or GSA) $584.38, we need both sliders or buy a complete set of front forks and be done with it and just transplant them onto the 1150GS ADV!!!
31427661890 no such number...?

46512314698 front frame ?? more than in Malaysia? But AB state –Schwartz? And A&S says BMW oem $795.26

46632328688 fairing bracket $124.77

46632328866 panel carrier (stipulate which model) $162.02

46617666021Fender Tip from 1150GS Adventure $229.25
Question….is this the black tip or the whole beak or what..?? where is the beak on this list? The black beak extender we still have from the wreck we can re-use it! 63122306963 no such number?

63122306962 no such number?

13541342495 throttle body (if you choose the R1100GS it only states left Throttle for this number) $544.40
13541342496 throttle body right $325.60
46712314762 foot peg plate right $74.69
36317690959 spoke wheel front (no specification as to what bike) $1277.29 but think this is the HP2. We need an HP2 ri and then get it re-spoked to a 1150GS hub by Woody!

61317710224 also tried 61817710224 no such number. ?

46712310404 foot rest right $43.68 (much more in USA than in Malaysia??)

46717687107 spacer left $2.36

46712310401 foot peg rubber $10.28

subTotal USD $ 5158.51
plus 4 parts not found at estimated cost (MYR) of $ 2056.51

------------------------------

To make sense of this I'm actually taking photos and compiling those images into a doccuent, which I'll then post in order to better identify the parts we need. But as you can see the fact that the front frame is cracked shows you how hard i hit the Hilux.

Again, thanks to you all for your concern and best wishes. OK I'm off to bed

Cheers
Simon

Simon,

Take a look at this post. http://advrider.com/forums/showthrea...ghlight=1150gs Not to far from me if the parts would work.

Also, do you need any of the parts I have stored here. Haven't looked so not sure what might be here.

Best to both of you,

Shipping a bike to them makes sense but it would be a nightmare because of the carne't. I spoke with Tom and Paul at Tour-a-tec USA during the MOA Rally ...... I was thinking about putting my GSA on their truck to Washington State.

How does one do the ownership paperwork even if you gave the bike to Tour-a-tec, then add shipping ? My DMV is tough.

How do you scrap the injuried bike legally since it was imported and add another bike that is going to be imported with no proper ownership paperwork ?

Just asking !

I may have my old throttle bodies but they have 67,000 miles on them.

Simon, keep an eye on that bruise I don't want you getting compartment syndrome, please have Caroline take a look via Skype.

All the best

Hi Chris

I would think it makes sense to break the bike here and only ship the needed repair parts. Might be an issue with import duty, but no carnet or other paperwork. And freight should be less as the parts can go in a smaller box. Usually you can file a salvage form and turn in the plates to DMV when parting out a vehicle. At least that is how it works out here.

Biggest issue would be if there is a frame number on one of the parts. That could complicate border crossings down the road.

Cheers,

That sounds doable, I wonder if there is an old German BMW builder in California that has those factory stamps ? Not thinking anything illegal here, its only a part or two to make a set.

Where are the Tour-a-tec bits being shipped from ? I was thinking the BMW parts could go with them.

This next week I am going to my BMW dealer to see what bits they have from salvage, the stuff lying around in back rooms from wrecks.

In Pa, you have to be a resident to buy a bike. I tried getting a Spanard sorted and on the bike of his dreams but he had to go to Florida.

Simon & Lisa, would it be better to get your bike to OZ for improved logistics ?

Buying a bike and shipping parts sound like a pretty go idea to me - on the face of it, anyway. If someone would volunteer to buy the bike, break it, ship it, and store the leftovers, then all it would take would be 200-odd of us to make a $20 donation toward the cost of the bike. Does that sound doable?

The leftovers could then be sold off to cover shipping costs, while keeping "consumables" like engine, gearbox, final drive, shocks for later use.

Anyone think that would work?

Trevor

Trevor, that's what I was thinking.

I have the place and the tools and I can arrange shipping. I'm just not sure of the interchangibilty of parts on the 11x0 bikes. Simon's bike (and Lisa's too) was rebuilt from his original bike with parts from a donor bike before they left the States. Chris (Statdawg) and I talked about this at the MOA rally. I have a possible line on a well used early 1100. Like i said, problem is I don't know what interchanges from year to year.

Simon, maybe you can define your parts list and interchange years if you know. Could also post the list in Gspot to poll the collective for interchangeability.

Logistics down the road questions.

Would it be better to get the bike functional and at least get them to Australia ?

I am thinking that it maybe a better place to sort with access to a higher population base of FF's and talent.

How receptive is Motorrad OZ ?

Simon, get that leg elevated or I am telling Caroline.

Aus might be better just because I think it has a lower import duty. That might be a big factor as some countries can be 100% or more. I'll try and research this some more.
