I was walking into a local convience store and there was a little girl on her pink Barbie bike riding beside her dad. Just before I got into the store, a pirate pulled up to the gas pumps with very long tassles on his levers.

The little girl looked at the motorcycle and said in a loud clear voice, "Look Daddy, his bike has pretty laces, just like mine!"

Yeah, keeping a straight face was challenging.

I think you're on track.

1) Calling a tassel "fringe" is by itself; kinda Gay.

2) Asking a bunch of guys if the image it projects is gay, is REALLY gay.

Doc, you're on the right track. Calling it a tassle, and just announcing how awesome it is. I personally think that the leather fringe thing is super-annoying in a 'you must have fifteen pieces of flair' sort of way, but if _I_ were to do it, it would have to be pink and white plastic, cuz I don't need no fringe to express, MYSELF

The number of pages depends on your settings. I see a little over 200.

Ok...

Moving along, with new motivation ().

Fantastic scenery... but damn. Straight, paved roads. Riding past the Kluane national park:

Clearly, the best way to see the spectacular natural wonders of this area is NOT from a paved road on a motorbike. You've got to hike or fly or kayak or dogsled in there. We're just spectators on the sidelines otherwise.

Past Destruction Bay

Nice and sunny... but still pretty chilly.

I imagine the weather can turn on a dime up here.

We eventually roll

down into Haines Junction.

We thought about camping, but this looked so unappealing...

that we got a room at the Alcan motel, and called it a day.

a quick dinner:

some chores,

and off to bed not long after 10pm:

Nearly 300miles for the day.

Wednesday May 18th 2011 M7 day 6

Haines Jct. to Big Creek Campground:

The weather continued to agree with us:

The Alaska highway goes on like this for HOURS.

Morning video update: I'd forgotten that we rode past Pine Lake campground 4 miles out of Haines Jct. No worries, it was 48F when we woke up, and we'd gone to bed chilled.

The monotony is punctuated with wildlife sightings -- these two apparently escaped from the North Pole:

Still nice scenery

Still straight, paved roads...

still trying to keep ourselves entertained with giant caterpillar and other wildlife sightings.

Gas stop

at Johnson's crossing:

Ice cream at Teslin. We are nothing if not creatures of habit.

And then the big excitement of the day -- off-road riding, and then some open-grate action .

whew!
