Don't forget also to consider what makes something a public road... public funding. In these times of tight budgets, I'd have a hard time really justifying public money spent on maintaining what is, for me and probably most, just a source of recreation. I want the trail to be open and given the opportunity will donate my time for that cause.

Funds dry up, "maintenance" stops, trail goes to shit. Most off roaders are happy. State should proooobably put a warning on it at least "Unmaintained rough road, 4WD high clearance vehicles recommended". But someone will get seriously hurt / die on it and sue the state and win because juries are idiots. So a locked-with-few-keyholders fate seems more realistic. That would severely cut down on traffic and the maintenance bill.

The trespassers just sweeten the deal.

If we both make it to the cat herders, we should get down there. :-)

I was riding up there couple of weeks ago. Looks like the 4 wheelers may help get it closed from the way some of the area looked.
TASF OVERKILL looks like you guys got a worked out . I went up with two growlers full of beer I picked up from Devils Backbone, they made it through. Had the pleasure of riding with Jim in the spring. Thankfully he had spoons and help me fix a pinched tube.
I was having flashbacks as I headed up Shoe Creek by myself without spoons. I never learn. Luck was with me and managed to avoid a pinch to spite the rocks. Maybe I will see you guys on the trails sometime.
