Thumb Motel Hotel recommendations?

The wife and I are planning a trip for the second week of Sept. Autotrain to Lorton. Lorton to Front Royal to Waynesboro for lunch then south on the parkway. Looking for something between Peaks of Otter and Roanoke. Current default is the Sleep Inn in Tanglewood unless there is something better. The rest of the trip will be spent camping at Willville and Iron Horse, with the last hotel stay in Douglas Ga. Then back to Orlando. Been reading reviews on Google for various places, but the reviews are all over the map and not too useful most of the time. Appreciate any insight.

I have stayed here in Roanoke a couple of times. Old school style motor lodge, but clean, motorcycle friendly, and only a mile or two off the parkway.

They've been pretty good. I rely on them for ratings pretty regularly. Usually the worst review is by someone who'd never ever be pleased. Read the most recent reviews, the excellent and bad reviews and expect something on the good side of middle. Works for me.

Auto-train

I put my F800GS on the autotrain in April and myself into the smallest compartment/cabin they had, only I went from Lorton to Orlando. Rode south to Fort Lauderdale for a few days then rode home to VA.

The train is a great way to go. They take care of your bike and have the load/unload drill down. You arrive fresh and ready to ride. My sole gripe was that the "lounge" car was really just a smoking room, or more like a smoking cell than a place to have a drink and chew the fat. Fortunately, someone had tossed a few airplane bottles of Jack in my overnight bag so I just poured those and talked to myself.

Have fun!
