i'm curious, i am quite familiar with russian bikes, why the ural gear up, which has its quality issues despite recent building, and not a dnepr MB?

Reliability of an Ural on 3500km: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showp...&postcount=104 Why not a Dnepr? 1- I leave in Russia. I can drive from the factory to home without "registration number" I am not sure it will have been possible to cross the boundary without a plate number... 2- As far as I know the Dnepr factory is closed. ------------------- Quote:

Novorossiysk - Moscow - Novorossiysk
Novorossiysk - Moscow - Novorossiysk (+3000km)
10/19 -- D1 - Novorossiyk / Rostov on Don by Azov -- 515km First step on a road that I know except the small hook by Elizavetovka, a small country village where you can see some side: a farmer going to his cows in Ural, another Ural in front of a house and finally a IZH in front of a small shop. Then I continue to Azov and Rostov. Except the sides didn't met any bike during the journey. Leaving this village, a police check point in health is a kind of "foot bath" for cars but with sawdust, control routine, out of curiosity more than anything else. Nearly half of the journey with rain and the rest sun so I was able to dry a bit before I stop at the hotel for the night. (1500rub). Due to the weather few pictures. 10/20 -- D2 - 20/10 - Rostov on Don / Voronezh - 545км
Start along the Don for a few kilometers before joining the M4. Many work in progress on this "highway" there are still some portions with 2 lanes but big improvement since my last visit in 2009. Anyway the 4 lanes has never been and will never be the breeding ground of the Ural. 7C it was a little "cold" especially without the windshield. But today no rain. So yesterday I saw three sides today just a IZH front of a house and still not see a motorcycle on the road ... That night the hotel is a bit more expensive: 2000rub but the room is heated and the restaurant is open. I still have 500km to reach Moscow, but instead of joining the capital on Friday night and take the shower (rain announced) I will make a detour to Ryazan. This allows me to leave the M4, take a short 380km stage quietly and Saturday I would join Moscow it's 180km from Ryazan. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Hotel:l

10/21 -- D3 - Voronezh / Ryazan - 388км
40 km on the highway and soon after the only toll gate on the M4 I left the highway to reach Lipetsk and Ryazan. Beets season start, I got paint on a few kilometers, there were just a little drizzle not enough to clean the visor and gloves were dirty too So I have to stop after few kilometres to clean the visor. Fortunately the finish was on a dry road. No control today and I have seen one motorcycle when entering Ryazan. Hotel indicated by a friend who lives in this city, 3600rub, it's actually an apart-hotel with a beautiful view over the city. It's nit the only coffee in Russia with a plane in front:: ![]() Toll gate: ![]() ![]() Lipetsk: ![]() On the road: ![]() ![]() ![]() Riazan ![]() Hotel: ![]() ![]() ![]() View on the Center:

10/22 -- D4 - Ryazan / Moscow - 230 km
Start around 7:30 and crossed smoothly the city, firstly because it is a Saturday morning and the other from the hotel not difficult to find the right road because it was straight out of the city. There are about 180 km from Ryazan and Moscow but between the two hotels and a visit to the Bike Center this gives 230km, very cool this morning but dry 1C. Good road on this route almost 40km of 2x2 lanes and the freeway. Police control this morning and for the first time he asked me not only the insurance certificate but my passport ... He wanted to watch but not for him I turned the pages, notice must be awfully physiognomist as having kept the helmet and the hood, Not too much traffic to get up to my hotel, 3200rub night, it is located in a sports complex, I would do pictures tomorrow. The best time of day, there are two in fact: - Visiting a shopping center with retailers of parts for bicycles, scooters and motorbikes. - Handshake and small talk about the Ural with Alexander "The Surgeon". To return to the Ural parts, the centerlocated at the metro Sokolnikov, looks more like a bazaar with stalls depending on the brand. Found 3 shops selling Ural parts. One that did not have filters, the second low quality filters and the last was closed, it was only 6pm and 8pm indicated the panel, the neighbour told me the owner just left, so I phone and she came back to open his stand. .. To get to the bazaar I took the subway, the bike was at the Bike Center, I was dressed like on the pict at Ryazan :) But a little cleaner as yesterday I used the large bath to wash my equipment... ps: At the Bike Center it was the evening of the BMW Club for the end of the season. It's good to see a Gear up being used for the purpose for which it was built. You put some knobby tires on that bad boy, and there ain,t too many roads you can't ride...But, carry a winch
