That will be quite a long trip. I assume you have ridden one of those old 500's?

(without it breaking down & being abandoned) not that it wont break.... its a 70 year old british bike.....

Anyhow, I'd prefer a mostly complete non runner to rebuild, I dont want/cant afford a bike thats redone, plus, I want to make sure the rebuild is done right. Basketcase is ok also, and even just a motor frame would be a good start, but it has to be a '39 model, if Im gonna do it, I wanna do it right.

So keep me in mind if anyone has one rusting away in the garage

Thanks! Doug
That would be one hell of a trip. May I join you? Please, please, please! haha

I'll ask a couple people I know who are really into the old European bikes tomorrow and PM you. Couple Brits did the same thing in 2009, http://lancashire.greatbritishlife.c...-tracks-34631/ .

He nicknamed the motorcycle "El Poderoso II" or "The Powerful one". I think you'll need to rename it "The Powerful one, the second" haha

Thumb A good read before you start the South American trip

Dear Doug,

Here is a book of a writer who has done a similar trip.
http://www.amazon.com/Chasing-Che-Mo...4870130&sr=1-1

Book is the RR for the same trp of CHE. The writer meets some of the people who met Che.

Okay he does it on a old BMW so thats the only week point of the book

The final part with Che's friend with a bottle of Rum is great to finish the book as well.

Have a good one...

I know that. There is a big difference between that bike and a flat head 500 twin from that era.Have you ridden one?

Interesting map, SpotWalla has of North Korea. Google Earth doesn't have much more information, but a little.

Not the vibe I get; I'll bet he's a tough guy in a tough place, and he's playing a very rough game. I doubt he has had a lot of time in his life to spend on screwing around learning to ride a motorcycle.
