GeoMoto's Labor Day in Southern Utah

Ride Report:

Showed up at Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort on Thursday evening with Alan and met Jesse, his wife Brandy, Bill and Bob. It was 434 miles from Irvine and the 109 heat from Vegas to St. George gave me the WORST headache.

Started out at my favorite coffee place in the world...
(edit: pics moved here)

With Alan

We stopped at Hogs & Heiffers in Vegas but they didn't open until 1:00.

Riding through Zion was AMAZING

Our campground at Zion Ponderosa

Alan, Bill and Bob at the Chevron or something in Mt. Carmel, UT

On the way to Toroweap. Some scenic vistas.

Here's Bill doing something... I'm not sure what

Miles and miles of big bike friendly dirt roads to do 90 mph on

What a great campsite, huh? Too bad we didn't stay here.

Bill on his sweet green KLR..

Nice view, huh?

Bill giving his salute.

Here's Brandy with her salute. I should say that I asked her to do it. She's very sweet.

We lost Bob shortly after taking this picture...

Brandy

Skip

This is the fastest woman on an F800 GS I've ever seen!

This man brought some great pyrotechnics for the fire. Sorry we didn't get to ride together on that sweet 11 fitty.

Sopascat!

Some guy named fudgepop or something... Stay thirsty, my friends.

What a great sunset! Seriously, you have to check out this place, Zion Ponderosa. For $10/night they had: swimming pool, slides, jacuzzi, free showers, free towels, zip line, climbing wall, atv's, horseback riding, miniature golf, restaurant, gift shop, cellular/wi fi signal, etc...

And that's when the rodeo commenced! Rodeo girlz!

There's something about women and horses that just goes together so well.

You are so right, Joel. This place has beauty that I've never seen before and you just can't quite capture on film. Even simply the dirt is beautiful. We went through dark red clay dirt, green dirt, pink sand and dark brown dried mud. That reminds me, I'll have to take a picture of the dirt I hosed off the bike last night.

This dirt here was green, but doesn't show up that well here..

It was truly big bike friendly too. For once I was at the front of the pack and actually got to snap some pics and video of other people! I also started using the throttle more in the turns to get the rear end around, and that was fun.

Todd wasn't there on Friday and Cathy didn't show up to ride until Saturday so we didn't have any first hand witnesses there but we did meet this older guy with a beard, Bob, and a woman named Suava (she was pretty hot too, for someone who looked to be ten or so years older than me). I said I was just curious to hear what about the group rules would get our friends asked to leave. She said all she was aware of was the group limit of 11, but Cathy later told me that wasn't why they were told they were asked to leave. I snapped two pics of the posted rules:

So, I'm dying to know. How did you "lose Bob"??

Looks beautiful. I'd like to ride those dirt roads on my F650GS someday. Thanks for the report!

Is that the Hamburger Rock BLM campground on Lockhart Road just off the 211 on the way into the Needles section of Canyonlands NP?
That's the Toroweap or maybe Tuweep campsite (right next to Toroweap overlook).

I was only kidding! Bob did great on his KLR, bald tires and all. There was no way I was getting that close to the edge as he did.
