Ok, fair enough ... But lets add that it counts even if You come some day here ? I may even have somewhere the picture of the fitting phase or the piece of aluminium before cutting it ? If I find it I'll post it. Sorry, no sister ... |

I made the same shield as you and no it does not work....
Ran it for about 20,000 miles and two VR's....Move the regulator out of that area...

I do not own a SE.
However since heat is going upwards, I would suggest you try a place under superhot exhausts and motor, if it has to be close. I believe the bashplate could be a proper place, getting some fresh air when rolling or taking only radiation heat when in traffic. It is by no means a cool place though. Cheers.

OK, does anyone know if there is a difference in legnth for the wires/leads on the VR from thr 950 ADV and the SE. they are all superceded by the same part number, but seem to have started with different numbers. I'm tryingto patch an 04 ADV reg to my 08 SE to take a trip. The used reg from an inmate hasn't arrived yet and wondering if I need to do soem splicing/legnthening.

I'm not 100% sure this is a completely viable solution. Would probably need to double check that it would work however, I used an FH012 like the one from this company, (http://easternbeaver.com/Main/Elec__...onnectors.html) and his connectors to solve my R/R issues on my 690 Enduro. I wired it up directly to the battery in a location that received good air flow.
You can also get them here: http://roadstercycle.com/Shindengen%...rade%20kit.htm |

Thanks Stobie, that's just the info I was looking for! Needed ot know if there would be some surgery involved to make the ADV reg work.
Thanks! Rick |

That is one racy setup MG. I wasn't worried about where to stick it, but the wires being long enough to mount it anywhere. Guess I'll see when I get it.

you can always use the wires from the old one to extend if you need to. some solder and shrink wrap and you're good.

Fried mine this week. Destroyed a Braille battery, then a piece of shit I got from the local autoparts store. I was left stranded on the Kokopelli.
I was about the trouble-shoot the whole electrical system today, but this thread happened to resurface today - my preacher was right, the internet ain't just for looking at boobies. Thanks guys! |

This winter I plan on replumbing the VR to another location far away from the exhaust--not sure where yet, but it won't be sitting above the exhaust collector.
I even had my pipes Ceramic Coated while I was away on travel this summer to cut down on radiated heat but it is still really hot--I have the 2>1 setup. Not sure what the reasoning was by KTM engineering, but anytime I see a heat-sink sitting next to a major source of heat causes me some concern. I've got a few days ride planned for this weekend and will wrap the collector area with header wrap before I go. I guess, to make a long story short, it is piss-pore positioning of a critical device. BTW--This is probably the funnest MC I have ever ridden or owned. It has its quirks, but damn, it sure is a blast.
