Question NC fire roads

I have had a GS for about 2 years but have never gotten into riding dirt or fire roads. I have just been enjoying the great handling on paved twisties. Now I would like to explore the dirt a little now. Are there any resources for finding out about these type roads in the NC mountains or national forests? Thanks

nc dirt roads

check out the web site: http://www.tailofthedragon.com and look for the button that says "Dual Sports Rides". Ron, the owner of the site, also publishes a couple of good maps that show dual sport roads. You can buy these maps at any of the outlets that sell TailoftheDragon merchandise or order them online. I saw his newest and best map (included some stuff in North Georgia) at Loafer's Glory, a small store just out of Franklin, NC on Wayah Road. I have a ride report and pics form an event in the area last year at: http://www.mctourer.com/rides/dirt20...Dirt_Ride.html

Buy a NC Gazateer by DeLorme (dunno if I spelled that right). It's like an highly detailed atlas for one state. All roads, paved and unpaved, are shown as are foot trails, topography, etc. These are great maps!
