Definitely not 610 schedule, but if you're not racing it, it can go longer between oil changes for sure. Valves are pretty much a non-issue with these engines.

The manual has both a race and a DS schedule, depending on how you ride. IIRC, the DS is 3000 for oil and filter.

Talking 2012 TE250 first pics !!

picked up my 2012 the day before thanksgiving.


it comes with a 40T rear sprocket... which is completely useless to me.

have a 52T on order which should get the gearing where i like it.


the stock tires suck.


i need to install bark busters and cut the handlebars down (they are too wide for my liking)

also need a good skid plate...

i removed the stock steering stop adjusters. they were too long.
i replaced them with some shorter bolts.
muuuuuch better stop to stop handle bar clearance now

i cut the tail section down.

removed all of the california tree-huger emissions dooky

removed all the turn signals and reflectors
(not required where i live)


ive never had a fuel injected dirt bike before so.. if it malfunctions in the woods im pretty much screwed



the bike is super light weight. .. really its amazing how light this bike is.

very narrow.
well balanced machine.

going to be a very good single track machine.






... oh yea. and it looks cool !

JD Power Surge - WOW

I want to share with the fellow TE250 owners - if you haven't installed the JD PowerSurge 6X fuel controller yet, you don't know what you're missing The low end bog that plagues the XLite bikes is GONE. Seat of the pants dyno says that power is UP. I'm still playing with the settings, but even with the settings out of the box it has totally transformed the bike. Well worth the $200 (cheaper than a Power Commander), tuning is similar in principle to tuning a carb, and you don't need a computer so you can make adjustments on the trail.

I am not trying to , just sharing my experience. Best farkle I have bought for the bike yet..

Thanks for sharing! I did notice the lower end bogging.

Also, anyone find the clutch to be crazy sensitive on these bikes? I feel at low speeds I need to use it more than normally with other bikes.

I've got a power commander and a 12 port injector on order, they should be here in a week or so. I sure hope they're 3x better than the JD tuner.

My impression is that the clutch is really good, but I had to flog it badly due to the high gearing and the bog.

I thought about going the Power Commander route, and it is more adjustable; if you're into the geek factor of infinite tuning possibilities it's the way to go. In the end the JD kit won out for the on-trail adjustability and the price. It will be nice to be able to lean out the mixture for those 10,000+ elevation days in Colorado. Even with the FI compensating, I was finding the bike was running pretty fat in the high country.

Geek factor? I don't know what you're talking about.

It's running pretty rich down at sea level, too. I figure since I'm using the quiet pipe insert and the big injector that the extra adjustability will be nice.

I'm also at sea level seeing the same thing. Going riding Saturday so that will be the first real test. Still breaking in the motor!

Has anyone had any electrical problems? I heard a few people say they had an issue with the starter cable melting to the exhaust and also leaking fork seals. Yikes!

I'm curious, when looking at the stats for the 2012, they mention the bike having a 2" lower seat height, but in the specifications, it says the suspension travel is 11.8 and 11.6 front and rear, which is the same specs for the 310, which does not have shortened suspension. How much actual suspension travel does the 2012 250 have? I'm guessing the spec sheet has to be wrong, since 2" doesn't come from carving a seat, which isn't how it looks when you see the pictures.

I'd believe the pictures before the specifications. Although actual measurements trump all.

This is my '11. It looks to me like there's a lot more tire-fender space than the '12. Although, bike angle and suspension preload can change that. It looks like the shock reservoir is different, as well as the location of the top of the fork guards relative to the top tubes.
