Upon reflection...it's probably slightly LOW since a value of 62,500 was used in the average for all entries over 60,000.
2005 could be 75,000? 2006 could be 70,000 ? Guess that I could have made entry ranges up to 100,000 for each year (obviously overkill for 2010-2011) to be more exact. There are a good number of entries in the 60,000 mileage range. |

Think you've got a LOW MILEAGE GS/A? How would you prove it?
1. Enter your mileage in the survey...and compare your results to everybody else! ![]() 2. Click on the EXCEL icon in Post #1...and see the average mileage by year... Did you know the average rider logs about 5,600 miles per year? How does that compare to you? |

I'd say that's true. 88k miles on my '07 and I know of several '07s over 100k miles but not sure if those owners have weighed in on the survey.

This result should be restated as "average rider rides his GS 5663 miles per year".
My GS mileage is right in line with that figure but I own two BMW's and my R1100S gets ridden more often, just not as far as the GS usually. I'm sure there are many of us with three or more bikes..and they all have to be taken out once in a while. ![]() Mike

I think you need to scroll your screen to the right when you're looking at the survey. There are areas for more than 50k miles.

Mileage calculations...
While the survey was limited to 60,000 and Over...I have made an adjustment as to how many miles are used in calculating the weighted average.
In other words for YEARs with HIGH number of riders in the 60+ category an adjustment is made: 2005 gets a weighting of 85,000 for the 60+ category 2006 gets a weighting of 75,000 for the 60+ category Obviously, if I had to do the survey again...I'd have included mileage categories maybe up to 125,000. But the above approach attempts to resolve this shortfall. And...I guess that explains why I never went into market research. ![]() Happy Holidays to all. |

Fascinating Laurel Perry. This helps me place my bikes mileage and gives some rough estimate of what constitutes a low mileage used bike. It does make me wonder If the riders on this forum are representative of the whole population of GS owners. My sense is that the forum folk are slightly more 'et up with their bikes than the average owner.
I would imagine there are some wealthy individuals that accumulate expensive toys and don't really invest themselves in the activities of actually riding their motorcycles. I see this with some owners of Millwaukee made motorcycles. The bikes get ridden a dozen times per year and although the owners are very proud of owning them, they are mostly functional artwork. Dont you suspect there are many pristine, low mileage GS bikes stashed around the country? I have no problem with this behavior either. The garage queens may shake loose when the water cooled bikes appear and I only buy used so this makes me happy. Lee |
