Snow singletrackin...???!!!
A few of us thought it would be fun to ride up to ck for lunch this past weekend... as the weekend got closer and it became clear we'd hit at least some snow, all but 3 of us backed out. Would end up being me on my trusty 03wr250f, bovads on his freshly rebuilt 07yz450f and sean on his 04wr450f. Plan was intially to ride up bullrun to meet some 4x4 guys up in ck for lunch, but as we pulled into mayer and saw snow everywhere we decided to change it up... Coldest we saw on the tundras thermometer was 28*... and the bikes were smarter than us, each was tougher than usual to start, with seans putting up the biggest fight(was trying to take a picture of my 42x's exhaust as sean was killing his battery and wearing out his thumb)
![]() So the new plan was to go up bee, then down top of yankee doodle, hop on some roads over to middle of bullrun and ride that up to ck, as we thoght bee and yankee would be relatively snow free... we were wrong! ![]() This is probably 1/4 way into bee... Sean led for a bit, shoulda taken the pic as soon as we stopped, instead took it after a 5 min break or so but whoever was leading would be absolutely covered in snow in no time from hitting snow covered overgrowth! Bovads enjoying the warmth provided by his mickey mouse ears... Wasnt exactly easy, but we made it to the top of bee ![]() Small icicle forming ![]() |

So from there, we decided to still go hit yankee, as it couldnt possibly have as much snow as bee right? right??? wrong...
Getting there was almost harder than doing the trails themselves... the road from bee to yankee was completely covered, and as long as we stayed in the powder we did ok, if we got in the truck ruts (now ice) however... progress stopped quickly. didnt get any pics of that, but should be a bit in a video to come later. We finally get to the top of yankee, and the powder is at least 8" deep... I head in first, and have an absolute blast cutting through fresh powder riding singletrack! At the Y, I start to go right and wait there, bovads goes left, and makes the pass, I catch him and were cruising along until... Now we've been watching moto3... so we tried summoning the powers of webb, rookstool and the like, but ended up just heaving our bikes over this fresh downed tree We hiked up the trail a bit to see if there were any other problems...Fresh powder... singletrack below And done with upper yankee... at this point we decided to head back for the truck, as it was already 2 or so, and we were a bit cold, and wet. Had a blast, but dont think Ill be doing this again for a while ![]() |

Unfortunately, I forgot to charge my gopro
so only got a little video from the start of bee(before it starts climbing, so not a ton of snow, so the vid is short, and mostly those same pics... but I think its entertaining. Will upload tonight, post up in the morning probably.

Good stuff!
Brings back memories from a March ride where I led Jrproper onto the upper part of the Bradshaw trail with snow!

Thanks Slowred... Really bummed I didn't charge my gopro (or bring the new spare battery I just bought)
the footage when I was leading at the top of Yankee would have been amazing.

Not as bad as you would think, we were working hard enough most of the time to stay fairly warm, hands got cold on the ride back to the truck, but wet(summer) gloves and long dirt roads at around 40* will do that... if i had a better jacket and winter gloves would have been fine
