Another boring day in the mountains with Cob and Chris......

Howdy All,

Just another boring nice sunshiny day here in the Great Nor-Wet. I had nothing better to do, Chris calls me up and says "Lets go play in the mountains........."; I had planed on messing around learning how to use my new GPS but I figured why not, I mean riding in the mountains beats sitting in the house playing with a darn GPS. So I got dressed and rode up to Chris's home from there we set off to explore some logging roads off of Hwy 530 a bit northeast of Oso.

We started out at around 500 feet and reached a high point today of 3,389 feet. The snow started at around 2,500 feet but it was light and scattered in the shady spots, the hard and deep snow started at around the 2,900 foot level. I am going to post my photos with a few comments I'll add Chris's photos a bit later. We went high then come back down a couple of times during the ride.

Being the law abiding citizens we are, we didn't go around the gate or did we, I can't remember.........

We followed the road until the truck tracks stopped and the snow plow had gone quite a while ago, where the tracks ended the snow got DEEP, with a hard crust and powder under neath, break through the crust and the only place your going is DOWN. I had turned around at the end of the tracks and was ready to head back down the mountain.

Chris on the other hand had to give it a shot............

Everything was going well until..............hey looky here who needs a kick stand.

So knowing before hand that I would get stuck, I drove the Ural up on top of the berm left by the snow plow when it has stopped the last time the road was plowed.

As I was trying to back off of the berm, Chris's bike decided to take a nap and laid down on top of him to rest.

By the time we got Chris's bike back up on its wheels, turned around driven back to semisolid snow we were a bit tired THEN we had to work on getting the Ural unstuck when that was accomplished we were both winded.

We had passed this spot going up the mountain, we stopped to take some photos.

Remember the rock dome in the back ground, at this road junction we headed up another spur to see what was there.

We rode until we came to another gate that was open, this area was being logged and the gate WOULD be locked at the end of the work day, that being the case we took a few photos then headed back down the mountain to another road.

I hope Chris got a good photo of this view, we are at around 1,700 feet the valley below is at around 300-400 feet, the sun is getting low in the sky and the mist is moving in for the evening.

The sun was setting, the moon was rising.............

Thats it for the photos that I took, Chris is going to send me his photos and some comments, I'll edit this post and add his stuff.

I just got an email from Chris with his photos and comments, here there are.

Hey heres pics

Went up to Oso today with Mr Cob.

Anyone guess what mountain that is in the background??? ;)

Couple other guys were up there riding too. I'd like to spend some time on the trails, too narrow for the Ural

time to turn around...

yeah.. we are both a bit stuck

Whitehorse, Bullien, Three Fingers

Pugh, Big Bear, and Whitehorse

Back the other way now...

Active logging

More fun with gates

Glacier Peak

Thanks for sending your photos Chris.

OK I know you folks are getting kinda tired of looking at photos of snow and mountains mixed in with a couple of guys who have nothing better to do then enjoy riding, so just say so and we'll stop posting them.

Howdy All,

I used my Mac to brighten up some of the photos Chris took of the Ural, this makes it a bit easier to see whats happening. These were taken whilst going around the last gate of the day.

And a bit of flying the chair as I get back up on the logging road.
