I remember when these first came out. It's been that long, huh?

There's another version that's more home built. Use a old rotor, maybe a bad one, and grind it down so a pulley can be fitted or welded to it. Attach one arm of alternator, any size you like, to timing cover. This is the pivot link and the alt swings on this point. Attach long steel or aluminum bracket to timing cover. This is the arm that the other point of the alt attaches to. It is slotted on the outward portion to allow adjustment of tension of the belt.

Instead of above the engine block this system puts the alt outboard of the main line of the bike and it hangs above the left cylinder. Some fairings will hide it but on a fairingless bike it will stick out a bunch.

Run any alt that fits. Many modern high output units around. I like the modern Ford units with a one way clutch in the front so the alt doesn't slow when coasting.

Actually there are ways to robustly mount and operate a "traditional alternator" up front - where the justification might revolve around bonus electrical power provision for "other reasons" like fuel injection, water injection, oil scavenging etc.
Having designed and built my 900w Mitshubishi system many years previous to the injection and forced induction chapters the reliability was long ago established from this vantage point. Fuel economy and parasitic loads are directly relating to consumption - my economy has been and remains very acceptable ( bugs the heck out of my brother with his same vintage & size bike but with S faring.
