Even older thread, anyone know the answer to getting a new vin plate? Mine is the stamped steel one on the neck.

I welcome any and all couch surfers if you are traveling through Augusta. I even have a well stocked garage for emergent repairs.

I orderd BMW part no. 71212312791 "BLANK PLATE TYPE IDENTIFICATION - AG" ($6.65). I tried to hand stamp it with the numbers but it was too thin & got all rolled up so I got a fresh one & took it to a trophy shop were they engraved the plate for a few bucks. I riveted it in place on the neck of the frame & it looks stock and proper.

The VIN label on my '83 R80ST (stick on type located under the right jug) is in REALLY bad shape. The frame needs to be striped and repainted. It'd be a lot easier if I could be a replacement label. At least the VIN number is stamped, about 6 inches from the label towards the rear, on the frame.

FYI, no trouble registering the bike with the messed up label in Florida. Just show them the title and be ready to fork over the cash.
