I'm gutted for Jonah, I've followed his Dakar efforts on here since the debacle of the Dakar that never was and although I'm a Brit my wife is from Yakima WA (not far from Ellensburgh) so I feel a bit of a connection through that.
It's hard to come close to understanding how crap it must be to spend all year preparing for the Dakar and then not be able to give it your best shot due to a mechanical (especially so early on). That's racing I suppose.

What happened to Quin Cody? He was running in the top five and now I don't see him on the standings?

Just few minutes before our Eurosport broadcasting I got message from Josef Machacek, that he decided to quit the race as last option to get back to the official ranking is gone. He was unable to get the paperwork required now by the ASO and FIM when his team is at South America and home is nobody able to organise it. He think that he does not need "training" by riding alongside in fake category where is disqualification on the end anyway, unlike his friends and customers from Poland, who will want to continue from training purposes.
Five time Dakar winner had live phone call in czech voice over in Eurosport coverage and was very sad. He mentioned, that he wanted to finish his quad era but not this way. Mentioned, that one quad rider from France organised for himself special paperwork from FIM, where he got proof in advance, that his quad is conforming with the rules and is back in the race. Other had very little modification (like welding toolbox on the frame). Quad of Josef Machacek is special construction, what he produce in small series with TDM engine, his only fail is, that in the paperwork remains that it´s based on Yamaha Raptor and the VIN code is from Raptor, what he used as base. If in the paperwork would be Machacek Production as manufacturer and different name of the quad model, all will be OK as the quad conforms to the rules for this year. He said, that ASO was doing sone last moment changes, some of the changes were sent even after the material was shipped overseas. But those five quads are 700cc catetegory race tools with paperwork legal at the country of origin, conforming all FIM rules for this year offroad events. He think, that it´s quite a lot of "politics" in it - and they were too much dangerous for others. Protest was simply cleared from the desk today, KM Racing team will send the protest to French Motorcycle Association, but it´s just formality. Strange is, that at France during scrutineering before shipment to Argentina was all conforming the rules and few weeks later it does not. From sporting point of view lost Josef Machacek all interest and decided to not continue "off race". Josef Machacek has at home already built his special buggy and his all focus now will be for this category. Thanks for support and reading my horrible English.

We have one czech bike rider in the race - Jan Vesely, he is around 94. position after today. Private rider on older Yamaha WR450 without mechanics - doing service job alone. Follow him time to time...

Tomas
Thanks for this Tomas .

Not very sporting of Josef is it? All glory and no....

Quinn Cody's in 24th, +19:55. He had a wheel problem on the liaison and was lucky enough to have the KTM team support truck stop and give him a hand or it could have been a lot worse.

I think he had fueling problems during the special too?

Not to mention his fuel pump was also likely vapor locking and he had to by-pass it to get the bike to run... I guess he was able to gravity feed.

In his Eurosport interview (thanks again, knybanjo), Quinn was quick to mention his fuel pump, but didn't say anything about the tire.

EDIT- Damn!...205'ed by the guy I thanked.
