Submarine Veterans Convention

I am planning on riding from my house on the Space Coast of Florida to the Submarine Veterans Convention in Norfolk, VA in Sept. 2012. This will be the longest motorcycle trip I have taken yet and other than staying at friends or family homes this will be my first trip into the unknown. I am interested if anyone else is planning on going to this, and perhaps we can ride part of it together.

I plan on taking 2 weeks off work and riding up the east coast with stops at places like Kitty Hawk. I have hotel reservations in Norfolk on Monday Sept. 3 and will probably leave home on Friday Aug. 31.

The convention runs thru Saturday Sept. 8 and I will leave Norfolk on Sunday morning Sept. 9. My plan is to ride home via the Blue Ridge Parkway.

I plan on taking my time on the way home and have budgeted 5 to 7 days to get home.

Any way I am hoping for this to be a no highway trip. I have bought a tent and am acquiring other equipment required to camp.

Any advice would be welcome, such as equipment recommendations as well as routes and towns to go thru.

BTW I have a Royal Star Tour Deluxe.
