I've raced this thing, commuted to work or class, carryed frightened passengers, luggage, ridden it 600+ miles in a stretch, battered it offroad, rebuilt it a few times and it still just fires up and works. Its all about perspective. I keep my xr around because I just haven't been able to find anything I want to do with a motorcycle that I cant do with it. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I may have to get one of those. I keep looking at those bikes. They seem to fill most of the notches I need to have filled. I was just worried if the motors could ocasionally carry my wife and me at 55-60. I'll have to try and get a test ride on them.

I once drove a 1961 VW Beetle from Port St Lucie FL to Grand Rapids MI. What is the relationship you ask? The 1200cc air cooled 4 cylinder has 36hp to move 1500lbs of car and 220lbs of Bernie. I kept it at 75 MPH with me and my luggage with zero issues. I was passing the slower traffic at 80+. I feel a more modern single cylinder engine carrying less than half the payload may do as well if not better than the VW. By the way, the 1200cc air-cooled boxer only takes 2.5qts of oil and does not have an oil filter.

If your skilled you can still do a partial stoppie with a pillion using some of the best front brakes available for the bike weight.. just make sure they know what you are up to.

I'm only worried that the bike will get up to speed so slow that it could cause safety issues when in traffic or merging into a lane in motion(i.e. interstate). Not that I plan on going on the interstate all that much but, it could happen.

i'm 6'0" 225lbs, so not 300lbs, but not a total lightweight. my DRZ will out accelerate the vast majority of cars. getting up to speed for highway merging is not an issue at all for me. (highway speeds around here are 60 to 70 mph, though. i have 14/47 gearing and, if i lived somewhere were highway speeds were 85mph, i might have an issue with maintaining that speed for long distances.)

Aerodynamics? I would tend to believe the Beetle has several times more frontal area. The overall drag may be close to the same, depending on the riders roundness and aerodynamics. But weight is also a great factor since acceleration is a concern.

You really need to test drive a 600 cc supermoto so you can understand how comical your statement was.. sorry.

I have rode a 600. I understand you think a 600 is the bees knees but, when I weigh 300 pounds with gear, then add my wife fully geared, loaded luggage and a full, after market, gas tank, the weight needed to be pulled around will weigh more then the bike itself by a lot. Some 600's would be double their weight at that point. I am saying that with this much weight I could see there being some problems. I'm glad you got a laugh though.
