I was lost! I took the wrong trail! Thanks to doubleoh7 for finding me and pointing out the correct geography!

Count me in for the 2012 version of "The Race to Palo Verde." By the way, the restaurant in Palo Verde is
closed, which should not bother anyone who ever ate there. We should be able to grab some munchies at the
gas station store.

If Jonz hasn't checked in yet, he's the master of the Freeway Loop. Maybe he'd lead a group of suckers up
and back on that nasty piece of earth.

My son and I really had a good time on our first bomb run last year. Tom took us up to Chiriaco Summit and back by way of the canal, I think it was about a 60 mile loop. My son Charlie, then 12, thought Tom was cool !! We are in and maybe with son #2 also, so maybe 3 this year for us.

Just a thought, I would be up for donating to a tip jar to help cover the Gearharts expenses, Dirk

I know it's a longshot but if you find yourself down this way anytime give a call and we can at least catch dinner and talk bikes!

So....

The plan so far is to start riding from point A Saturday morning, run ~80 to point B, gas up/food,
then ride back to point A Saturday afternoon?

And folks getting there Friday evening are doing tacos...

I usually stay at the Bashfords Hot springs.

Where is the meeting of metal occurring?

I guess some directions are in order. Let me see if I can get some posted up. Or better yet see if imgonnasnap can cutnpaste some. We are almost exactly 2 miles North of Bashfords, just Southwest of the canal road.

As far as ride options go;

The Bombrun started out with a bunch of ADV guys doing the Bradshaw Trail from the Salton Sea to Palo Verde via the original stagecoach route. Now some years we do it and sometimes we do other rides in the area. It is 80 miles to Palo Verde from our place. It is mostly a sandy dirt road with deep sand in places. Some shale rocks near the start too. Two years ago it poured rain and we had to cross a roaring flash flood about 50 feet across and 2-3 feet deep on the way East. On the way back it was completely gone.

For other rides, there are also some old structures, box canyons, old mines, oasis with springs bubbling up out of the desert, small dirt canyons, mountiantop repeaters and a pile of other stuff to see. Let me know what you want to see and we can figure out a route.

The Friday Freeway Loop is a challenge for dualsports. It has been done on a big bike but I wouldn't recommend it if you like a shiny bike... The real trick is convincing Jonz to lead it! Most guys spend as much time picking their bikes up as they do riding on the freeway loop. It's a pretty fun trail.

And yeah, Pops has volunteered to bring asada and fixens for Friday arrivals. Post up if you are gonna join us so we can have enough!

We have campspots for anybody who wants to join us as long as your rig can handle the canal road. We get everything from people riding out and tent camping to RV's and anything inbetween.

what about food gas, is there anything close nearby?

is there gas/food in Palo Verde if we go there??

Iv'e never ridden in this area before, so i am open to whatever, but the tougher the better

The closest gas station to our place is in Niland. (about 20 mins South of us) The last gas if coming from the North is on 86s Expressway and 66th Ave. I think it's the worlds largest ARCO gas station! It is about 40 miles from us.

There is a gas station at the far end of the Bradshaw in Palo Verde named appropriately, Wheelies Gas, These are snacks at the gas station and some years there is food in some dive bar type places in PV. It ain't great but we haven't had anyone die from eating it yet.

I don't want to disappoint anybody but I haven't found many super technical trails in the area. The freeway loop will keep the attention of a decent dual sporter but Erzberg it ain't. I do have one ace up my sleeve and we can check it out if there is interest.

Not sure what qualifies as "kitted" but you are certainly welcome to join us whatever your skill level is. There are plenty of sandy washes and rocky dirt roads to practice skills. Make sure your bike is wearing knobbies if you are wondering.

If anybody is riding out and needs some gas once they get there (a good call by the way) let me know and I can throw a 5 gallon can or two on the trailer with me for re-embursment.

I havent seen anybody step up to lead the Friday Freeway Loop yet for this year I will be arriving Friday night but Pops will be there all day Friday for early arrivals. (unless posted otherwise)
