sorry to hear, that happened to my friends dad as well, he's in carroll gardens which i assume is about the same considering all the nice buildings.

on a positive note i just spent a crap ton of money on dirt gear and looking for good single, atv, fire roads near nyc. juanjo showed me one near secaucus, nj but apart from that i don't really know any good ones for newer riders.

Dirt Roads nearby

Up around route 9D in and around Garrison, between the Bear Mountain Bridge and Cold Spring there is an extensive network of dirt roads, about 45 minutes north of the city. Roads are east and west of 9D, and extend to the vicinity of Fahnestock State Park; also dirt roads off of 301 and 403 in the same area. You can ride on public dirt roads between the Hudson and 9D, 9D to 9, and then east of 9.

Also someone on the Route 22 corridor forum (Kenny61?) put together a mix surface route that has a link to a google map...route is dirt and pavement and extends from northeast Westchester to Dutchess or Columbia counties.

Several dirt roads off of Rt 82, you'll spot them as you head north off the Taconic.

Mostly packed dirt and gravel, nothing too challenging. The roads are meant for cars to travel, they're not trails or anything like that. Here and there you have some loose material and depressions but no rocks or tight clearances.

one for the common man...

A few weeks ago, stopped with the family for a bite at Katz's Deli. Parked a few blocks away in a legal spot that we paid for at a MUNI meter. Unfortunately, put the ticket on the dash upside down. Got a $65 parking ticket.

Well, via the web site, contested the ticket with a scan of the receipt. Today received the notice from the court that the ticket was dismissed, because the receipt had the proper date and time for when the ticket was written. No fine. Cool!

So, lemme get this straight. You BOUGHT a ticket, and put it UPSIDE DOWN? And, just to confirm: They still let you cut people open for a living?

Yup! I'm from the burbs, where they don't charge you for parking! Very complicated stuff, those tickets!

God (I think) I love the AMA. I finally joined this year. Who can I call to ask them to support this bill tomorrow?

U.S. House bill has trails funding, no money for motorcycle checkpoints

http://www.motorcycledaily.com/2012/...e-checkpoints/

The RTP provides funds to the states to develop and maintain recreational trails and trail-related facilities for both non-motorized and motorized recreational trail uses. The RTP is an assistance program of the U.S. Transportation Department’s Federal Highway Administration. The RTP program benefits hiking, bicycling, in-line skating, equestrian use, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, off-road motorcycling, ATV riding, four-wheel driving, or using other off-road motorized vehicles.

Besides including RTP funding, the House measure bars the U.S. transportation secretary from providing grants to states and local governments for motorcycle-only checkpoints, which are opposed by the AMA. The AMA has been tracking the disturbing development of motorcycle-only checkpoints since they first appeared in New York several years ago.

Good point- however my question was meant to be "what did you do to provoke the person into keying your car"? Sorry for being unclear.
