This whole discussion is about painted stripes, not tape stripes-the tape being talked about is a stencil or a mask, not vinyl.

pull the tape after it sets up.
Thanks, I was also looking @ 3M #6314 but the pulls on it are not in keeping with OEM width stripes on this bike.

........The 218 tapes have no pre-cut pulls.........it gets tedious but you run the tapes to make your own widths and
spaces in between.....I did a Slash Five a couple years ago with 218 3M and it took a lot longer to tape than it did to
paint, like any decent paint job. Came out nice.

I can get fineline @ my regular supplier just never taped a stripe with it. Sounds like the way to go unless I find a striper in my area & that's later in this project-just planning for what comes ,thanks.

Don't know if it's been mentioned, but I seem to remember thick stripe is 3mm, separation, 2mm, then a 2mm stripe. I can measure mine tonight but I think that is it.

By my actual measure of several OEM handpainted fenders:Wide Stripe= 4.5 to 5.25mmX space4.0mmXNarrow Stripe=2.75 to 3.0mm which I round off to 3/16" X 5/32" X 1/8". There is no "Finesse" brand stencil tape that equates to this. I'm still headed toward the fineline tape at this time.

Finesse Pin Striping

http://www.finessepinstriping.com/striper_order.asp

This is the place I used. Don't remember the exact profile but they have a printable sheet that you can see all the sizes in real size.

The tape stretches to do the curves (I did a large /5 tank).

Used their black paint, went on perfectly.

Probably took 30 minutes to do each side, let the first side dry overnight to limit ooops while doing second side.

Helped having 2 people, one to hold/jockey the tank, one to put on the tape.

Clear coated over them, been 3 years, still looking new.

The only negative to say is that they look "Too Good" - no human touch - very uniform lines/widths.

On their site, F16 is really close to the BMW tank stripes on a /5

Use this: http://www.beugler.com/heads.html

A guy that sells these goes to all the local shows around here every year its pretty slick. It works like a paint roller that picks up paint from a pressurized syringe so you don't have to redip your brush or run out of paint mid stroke. The sales guy was amazing with this thing and could duplicate anything the freehand brush guys could do with it. The last time I talked to him he said that after many requests they now make a BMW OEM spec double striping head but I it was not on the website then you had to call them for it.

Also for the sides of the tank I've seen this guy use a magnetic strip that the feeler gauge rides in, all you have to do is get that right and trace it and set the feeler gauge whatever distance you need from the edge of the fender to do those bits. Very cool tool.
