After sleeping on it...

I got up this morning thinking about a few things. Before going to bed I purchased an HID light for my low beam; so this morning I opted for the Euro switch. Looking around I decided to call the shop I was at yesterday (when looking for the Tripmaster switch) and they said they had the Euro switch, too.

Side Note: While I was at the shop yesterday the salesman offered to let me return the Tripmaster switch if it didn't work on my bike.

So I decided to ride my bike back down to Roseville (about 70 miles one way) and get the Euro headlight switch and, while I was there, try the Tripmaster switch to see if it works. Turns out it did work, so I bought both switches!

Got the water pump seal out. It still put up a fight but with a heat gun, hammer, and in the end some pliers, it finally gave up the ghost. Bearings came out easily enough, but the new ones don't want to go. Used the freezer and the heat gun, but no bueno. Can feel my patience ebbing so I have quit for now, and will try the oven tomorrow.

I must be the slowest mechanic on the planet.

You guys, just pull the grill back to the shop and start cooking... Did mine last week, got it to 350 and everything went in and out nice. I did have a temp gun to check it, i left the grill on and slipped it back in and got my bearings ready.

Couple things came up that i didnt read about in the HOW tho.

It looks to me that there is a side to the seal, the outer lip on one side is narrower than the other. I put the narrow side in.
I also had a small washer come off with the front header that was under between the header flange and the head, not under the nut like you would normally see. Weird, it shows up on the parts fiche.

seal...

original shaft with 35,000... looks like the coating was wearing thru...filters still straight...just preventive maintenance.

a couple under a 200x scope

put in some new filters, 10,000 on these.

This small one always seems to be falling apart come change time.

Mine looked like this at 30K....

The clue was this....

I pulled the seal and got this....***caution*** moto porn

Now I wonder if it all could have been prevented by flushing the system as described in the H.O.W.

Fuel pump filter kit on hand...

I brought her home today. It was nice, rain just stopped and sun almost came out. I did about 60 miles this afternoon. All I can say is that it far exceeds my expectations. The fuel injection makes for a rock solid engine idle. As for the power, it's stupid fast. The torque in this modern V twin motor is incredible. And it's pretty damn quiet too. I grabbed a fist full once and scared the shit out of myself. Overall, it's just smooth and easy to ride. This is the biggest bike I've owned, by far. I rode my friend's SV1000 for a bit and it feels a lot lot that.

It looks like I have a lot to learn about this thing. The journey begins.

It's ok. My husband is out of town.

He was a little put off when I had the carbs on the coffee table.

Remus Roxx Titanium 2 into 1 exhaust

Just installed my Remus Roxx Titanium 2 into 1 exhaust

Got it from the good folks at Black Dog

The sound is great, but the only problem is that the 2 into 1 connector has a smaller diameter than the stock so the fasteners are too big to snug the new part. I'll have to go and buy smaller fasteners.

My ex sorta had the same reaction when she came home (with three feet of snow in the yard) and found I had brought my CR250 into the living room and was working on it in the house. At least I used a tarp! Working in front of the wood stove was much nicer than being out in the cold garage.

Installed the BDCW side-stand relocation kit, tapped new bearing cups into the steering head, and installed a .50mm oil jet.\

Now I just need to get my triple clamps back and I can get the front end back together.

Maintenance

Just picked up a 2004 950 Adv and after the first night in the garage I found a puddle of coolant on the floor.

So I took the bodywork and tanks off for a looksee.

Leaking radiator and had a look at the expansion tank.

So time for a flush and waterpump rebuild.

33k miles on the clock, the seal did its best to stay in but I got it out eventually.

A big thanks to the guys that put together the KTM950 how info

I installed heated grips under the stockers and put in an HID bi-xenon headlight. I put heat shrink on the left handlebar, then used an extra throttle tube size grip to fit over it. Installed the switch for the grip heaters in the dash. I also wired up my LED running lights, but I'm waiting for the SW-mototech brackets to get here to actually put the lights on.
