Yeah it missed madison by about 5 miles south. Last I saw there are 5 dead, Chelsea got wiped off the map along with Marysville. I stood on my porch while it hit and you wouldn't believe the sound, debris was raining down all over the place. Maybe there will be some sort of donation we could all make on the ride for the families if people are interested. The ride is still on though! Next week I'm going to check the creeks and fuel situation. Anyone interested in camping friday or saturday let me know.

We came through it unscathed. a few minutes of bean-size hail was about as rough as it got in my area, along with some winds around 20-30 mph. I checked in with some friends in the Palmyra area last night and and they got lucky, too. Same story with friends and family down in Kentucky. Looks like Henryville took a direct hit, though. Seems our Thursday night rides went through there almost every week during last year's riding season.

Henryville is pretty bad. Schools demolished, one of the two gas stations gone, numerous houses deserted or damaged.
I am going to stay away and allow the emergency services do their job and not get in the way.

Count Me In

I'll be up from Lexington, KY for the ride if the temps are 45 degrees or higher. I'll be on my XRL.

See Noah's reply in post #91 above. He is pretty much the go-to guy in Madison and will be able to tell us a lot more about it in the coming days. I'm planning to be there if the temperatures are above freezing, even if all we can do is jump curbs there at the Walmart and have lunch at the gas station.

I'll continue to research this and report back whenever a solid answer is determined, but you may want to consider the possible need of packing additional fuel.

Here are my route suggestions for the ride. Our actual starting point will be at Walmart. There seems to be a glitch in Google Maps that doesn't recognize the first several hundred yards of Bee Camp Road, and will generate routes looping for miles into the surrounding countryside to get around it. Map #1 is the trip up and #2 is the return route:

I can't seem to get Map #2 embedded properly, so here's a direct link: http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=Friendship+Tavern,+Friendship,+Indiana&daddr=38.96072,-85.04989+to:38.892234,-85.0898581+to:38.86121,-85.10825+to:38.83897,-85.14936+to:38.82668,-85.14456+to:38.7864393,-85.1652517+to:38.74941,-85.21477+to:38.74954,-85.154721+to:38.71438,-85.18746+toson+airport,+IN&hl=en&sll=38.918551,-85.098381&sspn=0.06905,0.154324&geocode=FYmiUgIdZbvs-iF3i0UdTkarnimJiYSvKmxqiDETkoSc0VT6yw%3BFVB-UgId3j3u-ikJ2jJR2XNqiDHl54yEcCWIeQ%3BFcpyUQIdvqHt-imj2vHDtnJqiDHs-QhtdG0bqg%3BFZr5UAId5lnt-im7bIpHnhJqiDGHYVeUJcH0mA%3BFbqiUAIdULns-ilHTKTwqhNqiDET87i3a8CjmA%3BFbhyUAIdEMzs-ikpSEU2SRJqiDE8hnSA6cxWVg%3BFYfVTwIdPXvs-in1QasIaxFqiDGvnisxgMMOkw%3BFeJETwIdzrnr-ilBOXbkExdqiDEMbtYB4aCluw%3BFWRFTwIdX6Ts-ilhf2FM9hBqiDGa9TT8fSee3A%3BFQy8TgIdfCTs-ilhei-4AxpqiDGweSgFTEpzPw%3BFTlvTgId2_Tr-iFWV_sq76ii-A&mra=mrv&via=1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9&t=m&z=10

Your thoughts?

Obviously one route is significantly longer than the other. Just curious which one is more technical, more water crossings, more dirt and gravel? Up or down?

Ride is on

The ride is on. Post on here if you want to camp and I can pm the details. Route 1 from Madison to Friendship is the gravel route. It's not too tricky. I'll be checking this week for water levels. Any questions just ask.

Just outside of Friendship to the east there is a long creek crossing, is that part of the route?

I'd like to join in on the fun. I am going to put a set of TKC 80's on the Uly. This will be a perfect opportunity to try them out.

Camping

For those who are interested in camping friday night. My land is in the town of Brooksburg east of Madison. It's about a mile from Bee Camp road. There is a barn and fields and woods all next to the indiana kentuck creek. It's technically primitive camping but there is a house on the property that may or may not have water and a latrine but I will check. I'll be camping there regardless of weather. PM me your phone numbers and I'll text you the address and more details.

Hwy 62

Just east of Friendship Hwy 62 is closed. I checked it out today and rode around the "road closed" sign but the road itself is bluckled and there really isn't a way through even on 2 wheels.

It also appears as though they have been doing some work this winter on some of the areas that were stream crossings and adding culverts/bridges in many places throughout the county.
