Well, the ADV tank arrived today.. it was very well packed, and the instructions are clear and easy to follow. They are also posted on their site:

I'll post pics of the bike with the tank and tank use feedback once I've done some riding. Riding season for me starts next week.

I installed the ADV tank over the weekend. It took me about half an hour tops.

It fits nicely and the aluminum rack will come in handy to mount my Motofizz bag.

The supplied (and online) instructions are excellent.

The only thing I'm not crazy about is the venting hose that attaches to the filler cap. I had something identical on my KLR's plastic IMS tank, in the end I ended up removing it and mounting this vent doodad in the pic below.
Do youse see any reason I should keep a venting hose on the filler cap, that basically goes back under the seat and ties into the bike's venting hose that I disconnected from the tank. (My bike does not have the evap. canister).



My riding season begins this week. I will fill the ADV tank at the gas pump and snap a pic of its capacity. And then let the riding begin. I'll update this thread with my mileage range. I'm taking my GS to Colorado this summer for some touring and D-S exploration, so that's where the extra fuel will come in handy.

p.s. will post pics of the tank on the bike once the bike is back in the garage.

I had that exact same bike and X tank!! So I knew how well the vacuum system worked and that vented cap.

ADV tank installation on F650GS / F800GS for extended range

I thought I'd document the installation and use of the ADV tank on the 650 / 800GS. While it's designed to mount on the these 2 bikes, it can easily be adapted to fit other bikes, by mounting it on a pillion plate or luggage rack.

Adventure Tank is a Colorado based outfit initially started by our own mod / Dakar finisher the legendary Neduro and now run by another ADVrider inmate.

6 extra liters will gain me about 125 to 150 km range (77 to 93 miles), giving me close to the same range as I had on my 1200GSA's 33 liter tank. I'm now expecting to easily achieve around 500 to 525 at the speeds at which I ride (65 to 75 mph / 110 to 120 km/h) and even a bit more if I slow down a bit.

I like the simple setup: the 30 minute installation, no drilling of the stock tank, 100% easily reversible, does not interfere with my hard panniers or their mounts, and I don't need to strap on extra fuel canisters, plus having that extra range suits my riding style best. I like to ride for 4 or 5 hours non stop, and I find when touring the backroads around here, western NY and western PA, and doing my annual Tour de Colorado, I find I have to stop to refuel after 200 to 250 km since gas stations are sometimes hard to come by, so you fill up when you can, not when you want to. Riding at least 400 km and then thinking of getting fuel, this ADV tank gives me that range and the peace of mind, and the cost is reasonable. Plus, it's always good to support an ADV inmate's Colorado based outfit.

I know some prefer to buy a $5 jerry can to carry fuel, but to me this is more of a semi-permanent option of having an extended range all the time. Of course, you don't have to fill up the Adv tank, unless you want to.

You must always fill up the stock tank first, then the adv tank if so desired.

I filled the tank today: 6.46 liters or 1.7 US gallons.

That little sticker on the left (white / blue ) has the tax breakdown.. will have to post a pic next time I fill up.. excise tax, bullshit tax, bendover tax, and to top it off, there's 13% sales tax on the tax... so more than 50% of the cost of fuel is going to the government mafia. Yes, Canada is a net exporter of oil but let's not turn this thread into political b.s.ing. To the politicians on all sides.. I only have one thing to say FYYFF

I installed my Motofizz bag on the Adv tank's luggage rack. I like the Motofizz bag which I use on day trips and overnight trips. But for commuting to work, I prefer a lockable topcase to carry my lunch, and some rain gear, and a few papers.. i.e. nothing too heavy.




I had this JC Whitney topcase, removed from a previous bike, collecting dust in the garage.. I monkey'd with it and mounted it's givi knock-off rack on the Adv tank's rack. The case has a quick release mechanism so I can easily and quickly remove it. Once I start doing overnight trips, I'll post more pics of the bike fully loaded.
