I've decided not to pursue the build on my Ninja, and it's up for grabs in the Flea Market.

I found this thread a couple of days ago and started reading. Only one thing to say about it... very dam COOL sanjoh! I'm a big fan of "non-stock" and bobbers and such. I'm cleaning up my CBX this winter and putting the finishing touches on my TW, extended swingarm, adding a fan for my radiator.. modding my harley fatbob tank to fit.
I expect this will all be done by spring.. so I'm going to be looking for another project. I think I'd like to build my own "Dirt Ninja"! Or perhaps some other street to dirt hybrid, really it's going to be dictated by price.. so whatever goes for cheap will likely be my victim unless there are mechanical factors that prohibit said conversion. I'll say it again... your dirt ninja is way COOL!!! ![]() tyz |

Gonna do some updating on the Dirt Ninja over the winter.
Foot peg relocation - gonna need a new exhaust hanger and luggage rack lower mount as the aluminum footpeg holders are coming off Swingarm extension - Just a few inches, any suggestions on how to do this? Was going to start with 2 swing arms and join the rear parts with a support splint on the inside made of tubing. Exhaust reroute Skidplate Recently acquired a KTM 950 SE and all I can say is the Dirt Ninja is a very capable enduro

I regret selling mine, so I'll probably end up buying the next ninja 650 I see pop up for the right price. My buddy just bought a 950SE, after riding it I was strongly considering selling my vstrom for one, had to practice some self restraint.

is that earley swingarm rectanglar or not, I was looking at that on another site where they extended it 1 inch, but i was thinking also 1.5-2 by fitting a thick wall rect tube inside, cutting the original at a verticle v for more weld area, fitting the original adjusters but this is all speculation on my part while i am still shopping for the bike. otherwise it looks like it is a complete refab out of rect tubing. and i may not need it for my app.

Sanjoh,
Using a second swing arm works pretty good, that is what I did. The correct size, thickness and alloy how can you go wrong? Just add on to the back. I only did an inch, didn't want to change the length of the bike to much. Absolutely no negatives that I can find from this mod, but a lot of positive. And you can buy them for about $15. The gussets are also from the donor swing arm, the brace sawed in half.

Why only an inch, I'm conservative. I was concerned about getting the wheelbase too long and affecting handling. If I remember correctly 1" of length gave me almost a 1/4" of travel. The bike still turns very good so I would not be afraid to try a little more length. If you look back in my build thread a few pages you'll see the the swing arm mods and inner fender changes. These changes really had an impact on the bike, it felt like going from a playbike to an offroad bike. Before it was pretty easy to bottom the tire into the inner fender, now I can't. I recently had a chance to ride this and my KLR back to back. I was hoping this bike would be a more powerful KLR, but what I got is a far superior bike. This rear suspension with the mods and R1 shock works really good and the KLX front is awesome.
You mentioned something about a KTM comparison with your bike, care to share more?
