Colorado Adventure Motorcycle 1000

Dates: September 2-9, 2012
Start and Finish: Colorado Springs, CO
1,000 miles of Dirt

This is not a race, but a band of like-minded adventurers, joining together as a team to complete a very difficult, 7 day ride through Colorado.

Appropriate Bike: 'plated' Enduro you can carry gear on or light Adventure Bike (bikes must be street legal). Your bike's tank must be able to do at least 150 miles, 200 mile range is insurance. You best make sure you are geared LOW....having a nice Granny Gear to climb the long, steep stuff. I would think a KTM990 could do this trip (with a good rider), but not a GSA, nor VStrom. Other big bikes that would probably work would be the 800GS, KRL.......Certainly the 450's-530's-640's-650's-690's will be perfect, as long as they can carry a bit of gear (clothing, bag, tiny tent, etc.....I plan to terminate each day at a campground, but you just never can predict what we will get into.....a breakdown could cause tents to be pitched way up in the woods.)

Here's my setup.......



I'm looking for company and corporate sponsors....(and their donations will go straight to the TPA
I will also, try to partner with the AMA. (They have a budding interest in adventure riders.)
And.....bring along a motorcycle journalist or two.....(as long as they can really ride the tough stuff).

The riding will be challenging, but we will be in groups of 3-5 and will help one another out. To finish the CAM1000 will be something to brag about.

WHY????
Well, two reasons...really.

1. I want to do it and I like the camaraderie of like-minded adventurers.
2. This will be a fund-raiser for TPA (Trails Preservation Alliance).

This 'first post' will be the location for information. Stay tuned....but more info will be coming over the next 6 months. Registration information, etc....will be coming soon, probably the month of January.

Hey everyone....we are now going to have some more buddies!!!!!

The RMAR CAM2000 is being put together....Big Adventure Bikes.

The RMAR CAM1KI/2K.....are now joint events with the same, nightly stops.

CAM1k......all dirt, 1000 miles in 7 days
CAM2k......25/75%....dirt to tarmac....2000 miles in 7 days

No......

For the CAM1k, the ride groups will be 3-5.

For the CAM2k, the ride groups might be larger during the pavement portion, but will whittle down for the dirt portions.

You're not alone. I found and purchased a WR450 yesterday for this trip. I was never going to get my YZ tagged and with the tighter riding I have been doing lately the WR is a better bike. This is a dream trip for me, Only time I have seen the western mountains is in the dead of winter at ski resort towns. I Have always wanted to experience the mountains during the warmer months.

No Sir.....You are in a long line of STOKED FOLKS.....for this ride.

A couple of weeks ago, there were a handful of us that packed out our bikes and rode the Kokopelli, out and back to test the bikes and the gear and ourselves..... It was a phenomenal, three day ride and caused me to only want the CAM to come in a hurry!!!!

I'm gonna have to put this ride on the side burner for now.

Menieres has been kicking my butt this year. Doesn't keep me from riding on good days, but right now I can't be sure of being able to put a weeks worth of riding together without an attack. Last thing I would want to do is join a group for such an epic ride knowing from the jump that I might cause others a problem during it.

Hitting the gym and riding every chance I get so who knows... Things sometimes work out. :)

I love that foto - what a great day!! Man oh man was that XRL loaded, cost us a flat tire further down the road too but again we got that taken care of and we all made it back in good time.

Hello, I would like to join the CAM 2000 list. I have a 950 Adventure that I will ride down from Calgary, Alberta unless,....there is another Adventure rider that wants to do the CAM 1000 and truck pool down to Colorado. I have a 450cc bike suitable for the Cam 1000, and the skills to ride the 1000, but it is a long way to trailer one little bike for the ride. Please send me the information package for this event.
