Did another winter cleaning. Painted the windshield. Ready for another awesome year!

Edvvard, this was my first bike. If I had to do it again, I'd get something lighter, if only for a month...then sell it and buy a 750. I think the weight of the NH slowed down my learning. But it is possible to do. Absolutely get the right gear... pavement hurts. (A LOT.) rockymountainATV and motorcyclegear have great clearance sections.

,
How much wind does that screen block? I'm looking at replacing my shield (developed a crack that has spread), and looking at a few options.

also...to all fellow Nighthawkers,
My Hondaline luggage rack is for sale. Please let me know if you are interested, or if you know someone who is

These guys are great. Chad Jones ( chad@sprocketcenter.com ) got me taken care of on my old KLR and my Nighthawk just fine. I went with the DID X-ring chain, 17t front and 39t rear sprockets. As far as mileage I'm not sure, I need to ride more, but with the proper maintenance and adjustments they'll last a lone time. Anywho...that's all I've got for now.

The paint went really well, just taped off the outside and covered with plastic. Cleaned the inside really good with IPA and sprayed it in a box, about 4 coats. The windshield looks a lot bigger painted, I was kind fo suprised by that.

It doesn't block a lot of wind, just a bit off the chest. Going from a textile to a leather jacket made more of a difference when it comes to feeling the wind. That windshield is more for looks.

My last DID x-ring lasted 28,000 miles on my 92 cb750. It had a loobman oiler for most of it's life, but recently it gave up, sun and plastic, etc...

I replaced it with a new DID x-ring.

I should get the new chain a loobman, too!

Nice handguards! From where? Any problems fitting them?

Good luck with the trip!

hand guards

I just did the handguards this winter. They are for a V-Strom. Got them off ebay. The right one was not hard. Had to drill and tap the ends of the bars. Had to make a bracket for the left that mounted to the mirror.

Thought they looked like strom units. Thanks for the photos and link. I'll have to think about this for next winter.. I've got protaper bars, so I'll need to do something diff about the end mounting.

Hey everybody,
I'm a new owner of a 1985 Nighthawk S

Looking forward to getting it on the road. I'll be doing a carb clean, new battery, oil/filter, shaft oil and air filter. Anything else I should look for?
