Seattle to Banff... looking for dirt

Hey I am leaving in mid April for Banff on my WR450. I want to get some good backroads and dirt biking in along the way. Going to camp as long as it isn't snowing or raining too hard, unless someone has space in their garage ;).

Anyone have any suggestions or would anyone be interested in riding with me? I am planning on taking 8 days, up to 12 if needed. Thanks

Chris

Any idea yet if you are going to cross into canada sooner (near seattle) or later to the East? Looks like you enjoy your adventures.

When I go on rides I just pick dates for leaving and returning. I leave April 20th if I feel like it, will come back sometime the first week of May. At some point I would like to see Banff and Jasper, but those are just more of directions to head toward.

Whatcha got? When can you ride?

Drz400s, I'm over by Moscow Idaho and might be able to ride a day or 2 if you passed through somewhere nearby. I wasn't sure if you truck your bike and unload to do day rides, or ride your bike the whole way? Either way sounds like a good little vacation.

Now I see it says your leaving "on" your wr450, riding the bike all the way, now that is a great adventure.

I'll be staying one night at my Grandfathers in Spokane if you want to ride up near there.. I don't plan on going through Moscow.

Yeah, riding the WR... :)

You'll have to ride highway into Banff. It's in a National Park. They do not take kindly to any motorized vehicles in these areas and you'll find yourself in jail awefully quick attempting it.

That being said, I only know of some good routes further south in Crowsnest / East Kootneys. If you are going that direction let me know.

I hope to do more riding further west and south. One of these days I'll do a multi week trip somewhere on the coast.

Know about the Magruder Corridor from Elk City , Id. to Darby , Mt. ?
It's the longest primative road in ther lower 48. I don't know if it will be passable in April, it goes through some high country.

You should post this in the PNW forum. There are routes over the Cascades. I have driven rally cars all over, but have no idea where I was.

Dirt/sand roads from Vantage to Moses Lake, thru the Potholes. Crab Creek is a little south of Vantage and can be connected to Potholes.

A lot of the stuff in the Basin is boring and I just run pavement. Plus you need to make some miles to reach Banff and back in 8-10 days.

There are forest routes thru the CdA's just south of Lake PendOrielle, Come out at Clark Fork.

There is a gravel road from the west entrance of Glacier to Polebridge, inside the park. I really liked this one. Then head north from Polebridge and hang a left to Eureka. A good ride.

There is some forest road north of Kaslo.

Google Kettle Valley Railway or Kettle River Rail Trail.

Check the Name that Road in the Canada forum. Some good BC roads mentioned.

http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=719645 some good roads near the end of the thread

Maybe the Palouse people should have a get together some day.

Good southern BC South/North roads at the 1,100 M elevation just a couple days ago. Notice the restriction on hauling, they have one hour a day to get the logs out otherwise they'd turn the roads into a quagmire. Then I drove up and met a logger with a big F350 driving on the wrong side....had to give him a salute.

Slippery as hell, ground is still frozen under that.No going down to Oroville that way just yet.

One of the highways at 1,000 Meters....got much worse at the top.

Mud.....!!!

We had several inches of snow in Moscow today. It's melting fast but things are really wet. Flooding all over.

Roads washed out in north Idaho. Probably in southeast BC also.

Supposed to dry up a bit next week. We've just had one of the most wet March in history. That means snow in the high country.
