R100GS Build - Australia

Dropped off my new 1990 White R100GS at Ray's on Wednesday night for a gearbox overhaul, planning on using it for the OCR. The R100GSPD is too much bike for that trip.

That would have been an ideal donor bike for my project, did you buy it locally?

Was speaking with Ray on the phone today, he`s done the gearbox; all new helical gears with 5% lower first and 5% higher fifth. He`s also rebuilding the driveshaft with the easily repaired, long lasting effort from Taiwan(?).

I`m not expecting any change from $14,000 and am prepared for it to cost more if it has to. Ray rebuilt and sold an R80GSPD a couple of years ago and an R80GS street moto not too long ago for around $14,000 each, so that`s my benchmark, but if mine costs more, it costs more. I know I will be getting a hand made bike built with great attention to detail, that is truly one of a kind.

Yes these are the driveshafts I import.



I purchased the bike locally, it was not on the market just a wisper from one of the guys I ride with, I went to look at it and purchased it on the spot.

My R100GSPD, that was a near perfect 40,000 kilometre bike when I purchased it for $10,000 last year had over an additional $10,000 invested into it. Worth every cent, about 90HP at the rear wheel and one of the sweetest bikes I have ever ridden.

Shit John, now you`ve got me worried. We`re sticking with the 980cc displacement, so no ultra expensive siebenrock kits; I`m not looking for maximum HP, just heaps of torque. The bike will probably have similar performance as Ray`s GSPD and will still run happily on 91 RON petrol.

I understand that, and clearly spending over $20,000 on a GSPD is a little excessive, but it will run with Ducati's in the mountains and still is comfortabe for 1,200 kilometre days. I purchased the GS to make sure the GSPD was not totalled on the cape.

1070 Seibenrock kit, long rods, cam, etc.
Nippondenso starter
450 watt alternator.
Upgraded diode board with solid mounts.
HID Headlight.
LED Driving Lights.
Ohlins Shock.
Aftermarket Sidestand.
Twin Plugged.
1982 "S" Heads with large valves.
38 mm header pipes and 2into1 Y peice
14.2 volt voltage regulator.
Custom single seat & rack.
Overhauled gearbox with relocated curclip, 5% lower 1st gear, 5% higher top gear.
Seibenrock oil proof clutch
Heated grips.
4 pot front brake caliper & braded line.
90 hp at the rear wheel.
Pulls well over 200kph (125 mph).

Just the lower first higher top gear and gearbox rebuild price i was thinking about. Thanks.

Depends what has to be done inside, anywhere from $1,000 to $2,000 if new shafts and bevel gears are required

Runs the BM shop - makes things like injected turbo 90S's etc. Gets out and does miles when he can too, a regular at the WA border run.
