Thanks for the updates Homer------just talked to Sam today----he says he has about 30 riders, but seems to have enough leaders to keep groups very small---and a lot of people are just going and navigating on their own---which is great---everybody can ride their own pace---which is so important to keep riders comfortable---have a good time--and a safe one.

I asked him if he wanted to close registration-----and he said no.

So it's still open.

Yeah for sure small groups with riders that are used to riding together are a lot safer and more fun. Sam, Dwayne and I prerode the route monday. Should be a fun ride. There could be a couple challenging spots if it rains. The little store/ gas station in Dumas had a killer bacon cheeseburger. The only restuarant in town was closed but Sam says it's pretty good too.

Are we going to get the route before we arrive in Mississippi? So we can load our GPS.

Sam finished the roll charts with the connector from lake hill to the tat and the loop back to lake hill about a week and a half ago. We gave it a test ride monday with a first time roll chart user and he followed it without any problems. They shuold be in the mail soon.

I am wondering if an R1200GS is too big for this ride? I am a very experienced street rider but only a novice dirt rider.

Yeah it's doable on your bike. There are a couple sections where it could be a handful if its wet. Just go fast in the fast sections and slow in the slow sections

Hi----to ad to what Homer said---this is more about your riding ability-----I've put at least a 100,000 miles on a big GS---so I am very familiar with them. I'd ride one if it's all I had and it was dry.

If it rains-------those dirt roads will turn to mud----that can be a handful on a 300lb. bike--or any bike for that matter .

So if it's dry----ask yourself-------"am I OK riding on gravel------some sand---standing on the pegs at 30--50 mph?????. If your answer is no---you will probably be uncomfortable on the ride. Although there is some pavement---the ride tries to avoid it.

Of course it's not a race------and the ride is not very long---so going slow at your own pace will be fine.
If it were me on your bike----during the ride I'd leave the aluminum panniers (if you use them) and whatever you just didn't need at the start.

Hope you can make it

BigDog

Size bike

I'm bringing the smallest bike I got. If I owned a 100cc, that would be on the trailer.
