Advice on this route?

Hi folks - I'm planning this route down through France starting 2nd May.

Any advice from those experienced in the areas on the route, about what's a must see - and roads I need to ride.

It's all planned off motorways so I'm hoping for great roads anyway, but experience counts

From Sedan, take a wider sweep and go down the D964 at least to Verdun, Neufchateau if you can plan a way back across. Nice road. Enjoy the Millau Bridge; quite fantastic.

is on your way I see. http://g.co/maps/hnrj2
The best view is taking the old natonal road I believe.

Does that mean you don't want to take the motorways/autoroutes? I ask because some of the highlighted bits are autroutes.

My target is mostly off motorway / autoroute. The route shown is the closest I wanted to get to the basic route until I have more detailed roads / locations.

I'm fine tuning it as I go RTLOver!

Cheers

Here's a very rough route that I'd take, starting from Namur, Belgium. I won't get into details like road numbers because there are many ways to get from A to B, etc.

South of Namur to Dinant than toward Bouillon. The Meuse River flows through Brouillon and is a perfect place to follow the river west for a while to see some great scenery and quaint villages. Then on to Sedan and Wildman's suggestion to Neufchateau. Then to Chaumont, Montbard, Avallon, then south through the Parc du Morvan. Then to Digoin, Lapalisse, through the Parc de Forez , Ambert, Le Puy-en-Velay, Mende. Then head toward Millau, via the Gorges du Tarn, or the Gorges de la Jonte. The choices are many in that area.

These points will put you pretty much in nice geography, trees, water, low mountains. I've kept you off the autoroutes and avoided cities like Reims, Troyes, and Clermont. The roads I've suggested have plenty of gas stations, hotels of all levels (don't know a thing about camping), etc. and I have tried to keep you within a reasonable distance of your proposed route.

Brilliant stuff RTLover - thanks. I'll plot them tomorrow and see how they look time wise.
