11 990ADV engine turns over, no start
Ok need some help with self inflicted pain
2011 adv riding mid state w/ my buddies when i could tell the bike was losing power, Fire roads where real dusty so i stopped pulled air filter, dirty but still very usable. No change we rode to next gas stop.
Friend jump on forumn and the symptons seemed similar to clog fuel filter, so we pulled the pump and checked filters all good.
Bike was to point where it would run but after some time would shut off, and i could hear the air intake was noiser then normal.
after some more thought we pulled the spark arrestor, there was the issue, spark arrester all but clogged with packing material. So to understand i had taken the stock can and gutted inserted a 1.75 stainless preferated baffle and put back together, well now i know fiberglass baffel mat will not stand up to the 990's heat ( lesson 1)
clean out material in spark arrestor and started bike to blow out the bit still in pipe. Left spark arrestor out.
Bike idled fine for a few moments then started to surge and died, Attemps to restart ended the same. Till now it will not start
So in a rented penske trunk, in she went for the drive home.
I have verifed fuel pump works
battery is full charge and connectiond good
i can smell fuel in exhaust when it turns over, and gauge sweep and all lights on dash as normal, and no FI code.
so my question as the only thing i can think of did the tps sensor or another device get so out of whack slowly compensating for the clogging exhaust, that now with it clear it just cant find a good read to fire???
I welcome your thoughts
