1975 R 75/6 Resurrection

I'm starting the process of resurecting a 1975 R 75/6 that hasn't been on the road since 1986. I ordered fork boots from Capital BMW and received the 11 rib boots. There are 13 rib boots on the bike. Will the 11 rib boots work?

I've also rebuilt the carbs, replaced the points, plugs and condensor (originally it didn't have spark - fixed).
Still need to rebuild the master cylinder. Any suggestions on sourcing a rebuild kit?
Need to replace the front brake line. Need a source for the brake line.
Replaced the fuel lines.
Rebuilt the Karcoma petcocks today.
Many more items to accomplish...

Welcome to the asylum.

The 11-rib boots will work. The 13-rib are just "correct".

My opinion, a good source of classic BMW parts is Hans Lowe, aka "BMW Hucky", at http://bmwhucky.com/ or http://bmwhucky.com/01000.html . The brake parts you need are in Main Group 34.

These may not always be the rock-bottom lowest prices, but you are assured of getting the proper and quality part. Hans has been doing BMWs since the /2 days and knows his stuff.

For a master cylinder rebuild kit, look at post #113 on this thread http://www.advrider.com/forums/showt...=741179&page=8 . See if that helps. For brake lines, see Spiegler, http://spieglerusa.com/brakes/cycle-...line-kits.html . Several vendors carry Spiegler, and some of the inmates make brake lines (wirewrkr). Perhaps they will offer their services.

Thank you for your replies. Technical ability to restore this bike I have. Experience with BMW motorcycles, where to buy parts and what to watch for and/or inspect, I do not have. Please keep the info coming. It is greatly appreciated. Browsing the net does not always produce results as I do not know what I do not know...

You're in the right place. There are several things that will come up that are different about the way stuff gets done or how they are made.

Just as an example. The finned nuts on the exhaust pipes will need to be loosened at some point. They get anti seize applied to the threads when the go back together.

Don't lube the throttle or clutch or brake cables.

Disco the battery anytime the front cover is removed.

Just a starter. There's more.
