It's on the list, though I've yet to overheat the bike with the riding I've done so it's not at the top of my (limited budget) list.
![]() I need a rear safari tank, a 70º tank and some other various bits first. Since we're on the subject, does anyone know if the fan kit works with the BulletProof Rad guards? Any photos would be great. Mr. Bracket, aren't you the guy with the nifty trailer on your FE? Would you mind sharing some info about your rig in this thread? Thanks Doug, it's nice to be back. |

I thought about replying as a PM, but decided against it as there might be some interest from others...

Yes, as why I've gone with the front tank panniers setup, amount other reasons. I feel I needed to choose if I wanted extra fuel up front with panniers in back or visa-versa. Having a big front tank and tank panniers would be too wide and put too much weight over the front wheel, and I'd rather have more room to move around in the back instead of packing bags on the seat. That's just a personal preference though, if the GL bags were actually 100% waterproof it would make my decision much harder.... but they are not waterproof and I can't travel like that, and don't want to put bags into bags. Again, that's just me. I chose to keep the front end the same as I like how it feels/looks as it is, and packing tank panniers on it is working out OK. Having the rear tank I believe will give me better flexibility with choosing what fuel goes where and how it's used since I can essentially isolate the rear tank from the bike by closing the valves, not using it at all but still being able to fill up the OEM tank when it's not needed. Does anyone have any photos of the rear safari, preferably from the top looking down? Currently one side of my GL Mojave holds tools, tubes, air pump, tow straps, etc. The other side holds a MSR Dromedary bag I've used for carrying extra fuel. Worst case I loose one side of the Mojave with the rear Safari, but I won't need it anyways not needing to carry fuel in a bag. I'm still not sure how the rear safari will effect the GL mojave bag I'm waiting for that slick skid plate/tool box that Lukas and the Husa ADV Team used to become available to the public, then I can utilize the one side of the GL bag for other things, or lose it altogether.... any word on that toolbox Lukas?... how did it work out for you guys? I see your post Bogey, I have to run and will reply soon. |

Make sure that you bolt the fan in front of the bracket that gets riveted on so that it almost touches the radiator. Otherwise it will hit the tank and you will have to redo it and drill out the rivets like some of us... ![]() .... and I will send the Scheff-meister an email about availability of the rally plate tonight. Worked out perfectly, it's big enough to get a full tool kit in there, doesn't really change ground clearance and can be removed with 1 bolt on 2 nuts. Excellent quality and heavy duty.

Finn, Hit up SethS with a pm. He had a rear Safari mounted on his FE450 at the Sandblast Rally. I'm sure SafariBerg has a few posted up on his facebook page as well.

How well does 14/45 work for you on the trail? It works just fine so far, of course it would be better at times to have lower gearing but that's the price I pay for wanting to ride my dirt bike everywhere. 65-70 on pavement and the motor is just humming along nicely, with up to 90 mph spurts possible if needed to pass or whatever. A little clutch work in 1st in the tight knarly climbs. No issues with ignition switch clearance for me with the HDB bars, not even close. Trail Tech Map Switch, Not sure about this one. Do you feel this is a useful mod? The difference in power or throttle response is kinda noticeable on long steep climbs, the biggest thing I would say makes it worth it is the substantial improvement in fuel economy with it on WILD/agressive. I'm getting 50mpg @55-65 mph, where I was getting 44-45 at the same speeds without it. That 5 miles extra per gallon has saved me from doing a lot of walking already. HID 55w headlight purchased from Paul on the Unofficial Husa forum, KTM ATV light converted to HID. - Is this a bolt on mod? No "adjustment" necessary? It is a total plug and ride mod, same wiring harness, same mounts, same headlight mask. Since it's not technically a DOT light, though there's talk of the parking light being legal enough for daytime running light, I added a couple of aluminum brackets so I can dip the light up or down, even while riding to not bling the cages while riding on pavement at night. During the day I have it tipped up to be most conspicuous like it would be without the brackets, blind em I say! (during the day) Granted in SoCal cops and drivers seems to be pretty laid back about this sort of thing, back around Chicago where I'm from people/cops are so friggin' uptight about stupid crap it might be another story. YRMV. The beam shape is nice and useful for tight slow riding and it has also a long throw, night and day compared to stock. ![]() Sorry, no photo of the simple aluminum bracket I made to raise the gauges, it's similar to the light ones, I just cut a piece of flat aluminum big enough to span the two holes on the bottom, about 1.5" tall, 4" wide, and drilled two holes on the top and the bottom using the OEM gauge mount for a template. Since I added 30mm bars risers to the Scotts mount it's now still a little low, but it seems I'm going to have issues with cable lengths if I try to raise it more. I can see the display just fine while riding, though I plan on moving the fuel and turn signal indicator lights to the two existing holes on the HDB top clamp. I'll snap a pic next time I get in there. Does anyone recommend any little LED lights for that purpose, I don't trust the OEM indicator lights with bulbs since I've had them vibrate out of their sockets a few times already, I want to be able to trust them and see them clearly. (nothing more annoying than some motorbike riding down the road with a turn signal on) ![]() Here's the top clamp, with the Moose Racing heated grips switch, I want to use the empty slots for gas/turn signal lights. ![]() More Husa ADV porn!

I've not had any issues yet running heated grips, GPS, and 55w HID light. I've only been out for 5 days once with this setup though. No problem starting in the morning when it was about 28ºF either. From what was posted in the other thread I believe I still have a little headroom with power. I figure if I need to run a heated jacket for winter travel, then I could use the running light instead of the HID or just use Low on the heated grips. For now I don't see any reason to upgrade the stator for my bike. Besides the other benefits to having a Lithium battery, like no needing a battery tender ( I don't have a garage with power) I need to use my bike to charge iGadgets and camera batteries while spending time in the back country. With the Shorai I have that capacity without worry of the bike not starting just like I have many times on my big bike. The SAE plug I installed plugs into this double dongle thing I made to charge stuff on the road when no AC is available.

As promised with text for ya Cruz...
Here's Cruz's 390 with a US-10 about 3/4 full mounted onto the tank adapter. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The tank adapter is mounted in reverse with the plastic quick release clips now at the rear of the bike. The strap goes behind the indicators and straight underneath the guard to the other indicator and then the tank adapter. Most important thing is to have the tank adapter mounted tight. If you have no indicators mounted then you can easily mount a steel D clip in the same place either side to feed the strap through and back to the tank adapter. You may notice that the quick release clips are broken and have been replaced with a straight strap instead. The clips broke during a high speed incident with a closed gate and a fence, but that is the only damage that occurred which is a big thumbs up for the bags strength and resistance. The front blue connector straps are generic straps from a camping store that I always carry as spare tie downs anyway. If I am taking a fair bit of gear I use the bags as a US-20 connected to the tank adapter and a US-10 attached either side of the 20 as this seems to distribute the weight better and the side bags are partially supported by the plastic side guards of the tail section which also keep the exhaust away from the bags. Have used this setup for approximately 3000 klms mostly hard off road riding with no problems.

![]() Interesting... The original key location for mine was right where the right-side HDB bar mounts to the boss. I see your ignition key sticking out the right side there. I looked at the parts fiche and it seems that I have some odd ignition / warning light / speedo mount bracket. I've just ordered the stock parts from my local KTM deal (since they're all stock KTM parts anyway).
