Kawi Versys engine weight/dimensions? For KTM conversion

Hey guys,

I am considering getting a LC4 Adventure rolling chassis and doing an engine swap. Made a post in thumpers and one suggestion that came up a lot was the Kawasaki Ninja/Versys 650 engine:

http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=456542

From doing a bit of reading last night this does indeed seem like a great choice. I would like to avoid major frame surgery however, so I am trying to figure out if it would fit more or less.

Does anybody know the dimensions and weight of the engine? Google gave me nothing.

Thanks,
Lukas

I was considering doing this as well. I don't have the numbers for you but one thing that is a factor is that the throttle bodies on the EX motor are offset to one side and are downdraft. This is OK on the Versys but on the KTM I assume that you have a central frame tube over the engine (I do ont he bike I was going to use). I haven't ruled it out myself yet but getting the sprockets to line up while not having the frame interfere with the TBs may be a problem.

Good to know that about the offset intake. I am going to visit the Kawi dealer on Saturday to take a look and hopefully get in a test ride. I'll try to get some measurements as well. This is what the LC4 frame looks like by the way (wrk2surf's bike):

Hi. I took a few measurements from my Versys, hope this helps.

I measured the engine sitting in the bike so the measurements may differ a little.

(Edited pictures from another build thread)

I can measure the engine again if you need exact dimensions.

let me know if there's any other dimensions you need.

Cheers.

The weight has been discussed previously on the kawasakiversys forum.

I think someone mentioned that just the engine/starter/clutch/tranny unit, without fluids and throttle bodies weighs about 137 lbs (62.3 kg).

It's the Versys engine. The dimensions and weight should be about the same as the ER-6N.

Funny, I found this thread searching for photos of the versys motor on google. I have a line on a cheap ninja engine and was thinking of sticking it in my XR600R.

I will post renders as soon as I work them up...
