1975 R75/6 box of parts..

started thread as a poll by mistake . . . can't figure out how to edit to change it not to be a poll. http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=769703

Long story short got this:

Missing at least:

rear subframe keys/locks ignition switch handlebars handlebar mounts steering damper, knob left rider footpeg right and left control perches rear light lens spring clips for front headlight exhaust pipe gasket front axle 1975+ choke lever/assembly throttle assembly air filter voltage regulator starter wire
brake cables
clutch cable
no title

Have been able to get a bunch of above parts from a friend, a fellow BMW enthusiast.
There is a Zundapp, a Hoske /2 Tank and a Belgian Police R69S in this picture:

I have been buying parts as time and $ permits.

starting with the front brake Master Cylinder:

Yeah, I know, UGLY! I'm committed to trying to re-use everything I can for now.

more to come.

forks...

Ok, I have a front brake perch on the way, and a front axle that works. time to think about triple tree.

Pretty dirty, dried up grease encrusted triple trees.

Wait a min - this guy has a question.

After a thorough scrubbing in laquer thinner, (the forks, not the kid!)

Good enough. . . gotta find time for assembling front end. Still working on getting a title.

Looks fun. I did one of those, but a '71 R75/5.

Title should just be a matter of inspection at the DMV or Highway Patrol office. Its easy on the old bikes that have sat since 1980.

You have a nice project ahead of you. All the parts you're missing are readily found and not that expensive via IBMWR, EBay, etc, etc....

Don't feel bad. Mine started as a crate of parts 38 years ago and it's still a work-in-progress. You'll finish eventually.

Thanks everyone for the encouragement. I know this is going to take a while . . .

BMWHacker - i know what you mean, maybe someday they'll get the attention they deserve, but one can only do so many projects at a time . . .

Next update in a week or two . . .

Surprise, fixed two minor frame cracks

If I recall correctly . . . this is pretty common to see cracks like this:

Went and had them welded up . . . had to go back because he didn't successfully repair one of them.

Ground down and a little primer to keep any rust away:

I keep telling myself I'll get the main front end components together one of these weekends. I'll be sure to post pictures when I do. . . .

Don't worry, those gussets will probably crack again.

Plate them with 1/4 plate steel and they'll never crack again and your bike will handle a lot better.
