Wicked WANTED chainsaw sharpener.........

Howdy All,

I am tired of hand filing the teeth on my chainsaw, does anyone have a sharpener their interested in selling or can you recommend one that is worth buying?

Bear in mind I am CHEAP and I don't cut trees for a living so I don't need a professional saw shop setup. I am interested in a "Timberline" brand hand powered sharpener if anyone has one that they would like to sell, or one of the electrically powered ones if its fully functional. Thanks.

Mr. Cob, have you considered using a Dremel and a stone or diamond bit? It is all I use now and I have been sharpening for more years than I want to remember. Anyway it is quick and efficient. I usually go around twice to keep from overheating the teeth. I only sharpen from the left side of the saw so the stone is turning down into the tooth. This reduces the burr on the face of the tooth. I use a in and out technique so the whole stone gets used.

I f you haven't tried it yet you might consider it. For me it has completely changed the game. Joe

Howdy Joe,

I have a Dremel Tool but don't have the proper stone or guide to use it on the saw blade, I did a you tube search and looked at how its done, I might look around and see if I can get the stone and guide locally and give it a try. Thanks for your post.

I have been told by the pro's that you need to spend a couple of grand to get a sharpener that does the correct job. Problem is heat that the high speed non-cooled grinders create. Thats why most pro's and the shops still do it by hand.

A $5 file that lasts at least a year, leather gloves, and about 10 minutes is all you need. Add a cold beer to that list and I'll file your chain for you!

Sold!: '99 Funduro

Sold! Thanks for looking.

There's no room at the inn... or in the stable either.

Here's your opportunity to own a nice, low mileage bike that'll do a little bit of everything. Its in good shape with Avon Distanzas that still have about 70%, and near zero miles on new chain and sprockets. It has heated grips, a tinted windscreen, and BMW system case mounts (I have the cases too, but am planning to hold onto them, they also fit my GS).

Take a look at the pics, and drop me a note if you're interested.

I'm looking for $3200, and am located in Boring, Oregon, east of Portland.

Thanks,

I'm pretty old school when it comes to sharpening chains...
Been using one of these for decades... http://www.amazon.com/Granberg-Bar-M.../dp/B0002ZY1WG
I can't remember the last time I took a chain to a shop... probably when I hit a rock real hard. With a full comp chain it doesn't take much time at all. It does take practice though...
I've got a Dremel also but high speed tools and sharpening spooks me a bit... things can go south in a hurry.
