Thought maybe a SBDC003 Sumo might be nice, but it's got the same movement and same price as the Alpinist......but not as nice:

Course, the next step up is the SBDX001 Marine Master - which is a HUGE jump in price...but damnit, it's 1/3rd the price of a Rolex Sub and a serious diver. OTOH, it's got a one-piece case, which means getting to the mechanism means going thru the glass - which they do by extracting the stem and pressurizing the case until the crystal pops off. Sigh. I don't know about that - hopefully the only time it comes out is when it gets a full service and has to come out anyway, right?

Of course, then there's the damned SBGE001 - the GMT Spring Drive Grand Seiko. now IT costs the same roughtly as the Sub. Sigh. One guy posts that in between DST changeovers his runs almost a second fast...seriously.

One of the problems with the internet, living in the sticks, I never even knew stuff like this existed! At least it never made it to our town.

Clearly I am good and deeply screwed.
You and me both. I just ordered a Spring Drive Grand Seiko "Snowflake."

Nice, nice, nice.

Talk about set it and forget it...unless you travel you only have to set it twice a year, when DST changes!

I'm not quite ready to set my sights that high. And I like the GMT with the lume, cause I have to be able to see the time in the dark - I have no bedside clock...

But I'm envious of your good fortune! Enjoy it. I'm sure I'd spend a week just watching that second hand.

I love the way it looks. The dial is modeled after snow blown fields. Titanium case and band, see-through case back, blued second hand.

Mine says 4....

Well, IIRC, both are technically correct but I think only clocks still use that - no one would write a complex roman numeral using IIII, it would be confusing as it's not standard, you don't do XXXX for 40.

Beautiful... and EXPENSIVE, but for those who can swing it, I'm jealous.

No, it's still a long and honored tradition in watch dials. You can read some professional opinions and hypotheses here.

Awww, Jarvis, that's a beaut!

Right now, I'm on the lookout for a cheap, vintage GMT. I just want that extra hand. And it's handy during the yearly Dakar coverage in Racing. This year, I wore my dad's '80s Seiko ana/digi with the digital display set to Chile time.

Horology in general I probably should have said...shit a bunch of critics around here....snort.

I don't care for 'em anyway, not on MY wrist.

Yea, the Seiko GS line is awsome - the fit and finish on these watches is second to none.
