Yeah I figured he was using the EU version, I didn't think they used states/provinces in other countries.

Looking at Dan's reply above with the screen shots, it appears they do not. So that why I was questioning it.

One more hint on making successful Address searches.

If I'm unfamiliar with the area (Country, City, etc.) I will first go to the Map Page on my GPS and pan to the area I want to search - even if it is just close to a village or city. Then I zoom in so I can see how the local spellings are in case they may be (usually are) different than what I got from Google or others. Then I zoom further to see how the local street names are configured. This saves me a lot of frustration when searching.

Cheers,

Thanks for the help, although as mentioned by Jon, it is not usually a good idea to play with beta software while on the road, it seemed to me that the damm thing was useless anyway, so I upgraded to 4.02 and I can now select what I want and can even find the addresses I need :)

Cheers from the Med, heading to Gallipoli and Anzac Cove tomorrow, we shall see what happens when I enter Greece in two days :)

Amazing. I've downloaded/installed it on my 650 and it does seem to speed up maps.

Well they "fixed" my editing a route created in Basecamp and edited on the Montana problems. They removed the edit button for these type of routes

And preliminary testing while switching, zooming and scrolling topo maps with the basemap disabled... I have NOT been able to trigger the crash I was getting before (it was still there with 4.02).

I've been trying different combo's for several hours now and I have not found the map performance to be "exciting" when it comes to Topo scrolling (redraw). And, with CNNA and a couple of BirdsEye Imagery Enabled, I don't see any performance improvements especially at zoom levels between 2mi - 30mi.

Hope that they keep working on Map performance. It would be especially helpful if we got Feature Request #16 (Show/Hide Contour Lines).

Hey Doc, I downloaded your M9 route. Looks like you will have a blast. I was trying to find a way that I could jump on the HP2 and hook up with you folks for a day as you pass through Oregon or NV but I'll be making my way down to the Overland Expo (doing a couple of GPS Sessions for the uninitiated). Ride well...

Cheers,

I've been trying to figure out if this is suppose to be a feature or a bug.

I'm going with bug since I don't like the idea of not being able to change MY data.

Diving a little deeper

So I decided to see just why one can't edit a BaseCamp route downloaded to the Montana but you can edit a route created on the Montana.

Diving into the route.gpx file a bit I found that if I rename the "creator" attribute from "Garmin Desktop App" to "Montana 600" and remove the node "trp:Trip" then the montana thinks I've created the route on the Montana and you have full edit capability as well as options like "Reverse Route"

So, while it takes a little manipulation it looks like one can get this much needed functionality. Next - a little clean up app to automate this

Cheers,
I've been sending in bug reports about editing downloaded routes so I just thought this is how they decided to "fix" it
