After the most recent test concluded, Alonso sais I'm wrong about the importance of the exhaust.

When asked for his feeling on the new exhaust configuration, he said: "Nothing surprising in terms of performance. I think we tried different configurations of exhaust layout and each day we had a different one and different parts on the car. I think it was just to confirm what our thoughts were and what to bring for the next races and for development.

"This year it is not any more important what position you choose [for the exhausts], or how you manage the position. We saw in Australia one of the quickest cars had the lateral exhausts like McLaren, we saw in China two Red Bulls with different [exhaust] positions and we saw in Bahrain, Red Bull with the lateral ones, but the quickest car was Lotus with the straight ones.

"So we cannot lose even five minutes on this. There are bigger areas of the car where we need to improve and we try to do it."

He also made a comment I found interesting. He said the wind tunnel and computer projections for their new aero bits matched what they saw on the track this session. That's a contrast to the immense problems Ferrari had last season, when they had a calibration problem.

He said that instead of bringing everything to the track for this test, they decided to spend more time in the wind tunnel.

Spurs don't have 4th yet, my friend. And if Chelsea win on May 19th, Spurs still wouldn't play in the Champions League.

According to the standings, they have fourth, and if their current form holds, they have a shot at third. I won't wish ill for you, but...........

Man, the Premier League season just won't quit. Frankly, it's because most teams are mediocre this season. But every position in the top 5 could change between now and next week. Unbelievably, if Chelsea win their last two matches they could still secure 4th. Unlikely, but possible. Spurs have a reasonably tough opponent for the finale, Fulham (and American Clint Dempsey) have been respectable this season.

Dempsey is putting himself in a great position, he'll be sought by one or two teams. I agree with the assessment of the EPL. It has been an interesting season.

I think Spurs can do it. Adabyor is a great fit for them. I hope they can swing a deal to keep him as they are going to loose Modric. We shall see..

Any idea which teams are going to finish on the podium for F1next? Seems they are taking turns.

“I have tested here very many times. It’s a challenging circuit - great fun with a good car, but not that great with a not so good car. Usually a car going well in Barcelona goes well everywhere. We had a good car there for the second pre-season test even if the car wasn’t quite together for the first one. The car has improved and I feel more comfortable in it.

“I expect Lotus to be very competitive at Barcelona. It’s going to be very, very close between the top teams. This is the only circuit where the teams have already tested with the new cars, and the set-up is crucial as the track changes with the wind and temperature. All the teams have updates for the first European race, which makes it even more interesting and even tighter at the top.

“I have won here twice, and there’s nothing better than winning in any Grand Prix. Those two wins are my only podiums in the event.”

2011 Qualifying - 5th, 2011 Race - 3rd
“Barcelona can be a funny circuit: we all test there so regularly that every driver knows it like the back of his hand, yet it can still be an extremely tricky place to get absolutely right. But, because every team is so dialled in to the track, even having a well-sorted car isn’t necessarily the answer because it’s sometimes the smallest differences that determine the order.

“You need to have absolutely every box ticked if you’re going to win at Barcelona. It’s a place that punishes poor balance like almost nowhere else - if your car is understeering around here, then you’re going to really struggle. There are no particularly stand-out corners, but the blast up the hill through Turns Seven and Eight and the fast right-hander at Turn Nine have a great flow and feel great when you nail it - especially in qualifying.”
