YEAH BABY!
It's supposed to be nice tomorrow. Should be a great day for racing. I hear they WILL NOT have the problems at "sign-up" that they had last year.
I'll be racing the 1 1/2 hr. "Stupid Senile" class with 'ol reliable......the 525. Hopefully WITHOUT the e-start woes I had last year.

See you FF's there tomorrow.

Chris

I'm curious how many laps the slower C or sportsman riders did. The guy next to me at the start figured he would do 4 or 5 (he walked most of the course the previous day (!) so he apparently knew the area). I was almost done the first lap and I mangled my brake pedal so bad that even pounding it with a rock, I still couldn't make it useable. A better rider could have continued with no back brakes, but not me. It seemed like it took me 30 minutes to do one, but I didn't know the time (it may have only been 20, although it felt like an hour). There were a few people behind me, though.

I came to the event with a brand spanking new WR125 (had 20 minutes seat time on it). After 1 lap I stoped with a rear fender shifter about 6 inches to the left (bent the frame that holds the fender), broken the clutch lever, dented the header, and completely lost the rear brake, I walked away feeling very dissapointed that I could not find a flow, and all I did was struggle to find that flow. And anyone that managed to do "4 or 5 laps".... However, I also talked to someone on my line that had walked the entire course and said it "looks ver easy"...my freind saw him comming down the hill right above the pit area (off the course) with a glazed face just after completeding the first lap. Then while loading the bike all I heard was all these people that completed a billion laps, and here I was with one lap under my belt. I guess I need a lot more practice learning how ride smoother on polshed slippery oil covered mud. Even with the perfect bike, I would have struggled just the same.

Aw, shitcakes! Another race, another "issue". It's getting old. Spend $$$, get bike ready, get amped up, and..................PFFFFFFFFT! ANOTHER ruined brand new $150 tire. 7 frickin' miles. Yeah, it's the sidewall. If I kept all of the sneakers I've done this to in less then 20 miles, I'd have a very tall stack of junk rubber, that sure looks good enough though.

Oh well, I made myself feel better by getting home quick, changing, and hopping on the 1000 Interceptor and going back up there to watch some of the fast guy's. And I also saw plenty of guy's coming off the hill that suffered the same end as I.

Screw this riding you have to pay for and don't even get free cookies and beer at the end, who's ready to ride up here at Chez Wyckoff?

Very very tough race.... one would have to have alot of experience in tight single track, rock embedded trail just to finish.....
As this race took place at a ski resort, most of the down hills were tight ass single track and the uphills were nasty, open
hill climbs.... not the kind you think your gonna creep up .... rather the all or nothing on the gas hoping for the best climbs.....
Alot of hairy ass shoot outs took place on a section of switch backs going up the mountain... this is where the real racing took place...
guys were just ripping up those switch backs inchs from each other.... had the race been more open like this, rather then tight single track, more guy's
would have finished... you just can't ride slippy rock, tight ass single track for two hours straight and not have your ass handed to you...... I'll never understand
why these race's are set up for 15, 25 year old guys ... rather then 500 riders that need to go back to work on Monday....... had this race been just a little
more open NOT ALOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! just a little, more guys would have finished and had the time of they lives....
As for me..... I did finish but just..... I had a nice high speed 360 on one of those huge rocks that threw me off the bike like a rubber F doll in 1/2 a second.....
it was all down hill from there, with like 20mins left in the race.... Also there were alot of guy's with some kind of break down ..... alot of blown tires...
NOT flats, blown, shredded tires......
Don't get me wrong here... this was a great time... but really tested ones skill.....

Nice to hear it was tough for others... granted, it was only my second real ride on this bike (it surely wasn't the bike's fault), but I could not get traction to save my life. I may have had too much psi (13.5), but I was afraid of a pinch-flat or a bent rim... so, I was skating all over the place. (Heh, and not being used to a 2-stroke powerband, even on the wide open spots I was fishtailing like a clown when it hit.) The slippery, rocky singletrack had me pining for the deep NJ sand. I don't know how the fast guys do it and keep the front wheel planted (yeah, I guess i do know... experience and skill).
