That's pathetic.
I got a letter a few weeks I basically ignored from a company in Santa Fe trying to sell high-speed internet. I think they wanted $40 a month for 1.5Mbs though. Not really cheap. However, if the speeds are closer to advertised, it may be worth looking into.

Yep
The really sad thing is that I had better internet 10, yes TEN years ago! Where is the progress? Granted, I lived in Austin then instead of outside of Tyler, but still I had 7 Mb/s internet and only paid about $35 per month. That was with Time Warner Cable, their "Roadrunner" service. I never had a single issue with it using it for 5 years living in both Austin and San Antonio. Yes, for 80 a month now in Austin I could get Verizon's Fios internet, and I would be all over that! |

I've just started using Century Link here in Davenport, IA. I'll let you know what the bill is when it comes in. I've played WoW and WoT so far without a problem, but I haven't done any Netflix type of downloads.

Annoying as heck isn't it? I did a speed test on that site you used three days ago. My result for my 1.5Mbs service was .51 down and .23 up.

I have CenturyLink DSL in Las Cruces. I had 1.5mbps service (no phone service) up until March of this year. I was happy with the service but they raised my bill from $40.88 to $52 per month. So I called and asked the CSR if they had any options to lower my bill. The CSR was pretty nice and gave me a 1 year promo deal for 12mbps up (800kbps down) for $33.28 a month. This includes the DSL service, rental of a higher speed DSL wireless modem, and all taxes. In a year the rate will go up to $55 but I think there will probably be another promo deal to take advantage of then.
In my experience, Qwest/CenturyLink DSL has been very good. Every time I speedtest, it is at or near its advertised speed. My Roku box never has a problem and I use it often to stream video from Netflix & Amazon. I think the CSR can be your friend, so it helps to be nice to them. At one point I thought it might be better to buy the DSL modem but now that I upgraded I'm glad I didn't lock myself into older DSL hardware. |

That's actually somewhat good news, and it confirms what I alluded to earlier... If they are buying up companies, the network is probably much more robust in some areas than it is in others. I may have to give them a call sometime and see what I can work out.
