Best Tires for F800GS for Long Trip

I will be going on a trip from Pennsylvania to Montana to Canada back to Montana then back home and will be hitting a myriad of road types and expect 5-6K miles. I have a set of Shinko 705s now and they are ok, but I am only getting 3500 miles out of the back tire and would prefer not to carry one with me.

I was wondering what tires you guys would recommend for this trip? There will be lots of highway miles getting there and back.

Hiedi k-60 good for about 8-10K mi. YMMV

When I was going on a cross-country trip on my F800GS, my dealer recommended Metzeler Tourances, and he said to keep them over 40psi to make them last close to 15K. I put one only in the back, I put a much cheaper Shinko in the front because I was sure it would last. The trip was 9,000 miles, no problems at all. I finally replaced the Tourance two weeks ago at 11,700 miles. The front Shinko still looked like it had about 3K left in it, so I put it aside. This turned out to be a great combination of value and durability.

Ive run Anakee2s & Tourances - I prefer Anakee, but both good tires for a 80/20, road/dirt adventure. Which maybe all you need on this trip. More dirt? - I'd go with Heidi rear - TKC front. Both will provide 8+ K mi. That combo not as much fun for canyon carving - but much better for the rough stuff. Have fun.

Option 1, do a little research on which tire(s) will last the whole trip and spend your time riding.
Option 2, don't plan at all and spend your vacation time jacking off in some dealership which you had to search for/maybe go our of your way to get to or plan your trip stops according to tire wear and then dick around waiting for them to change the tire or spend your time doing it yourself.

Option 1 sounds better. Everybody is different though.

CD & MT availability - Tourance, probably - Anakee, maybe - heidi, dont count on it. It IS best to spoon on rubber before ya go... & just be done with it. Enjoy the superb scenery.

Anakee 2s are just flat out awesome for long trips especially if you hit rain and wet dirt roads. Grip and wear combination are just unbelievable. Michelin air stop tubes are perfect with these tires.

Agreed. Buy tires for rubber compounds that emphasize traction rather than longevity, and replace en route.

I'll second the Hedenau K-60's its a great 50/50 tire, but I don't know how people get the mileage claimed.
You can get 5-6000mi easily.

I have the K-60's on my 800 and I am looking forward to seeing how they do. Mostly back roads. Some dirt up in Moab and Monument Valley. I took the Anakees off after 3000 miles and put these on. 1500 miles on them and so far I love them.

If I'm doing a long trip with some back roads/mild offroad I run a K60 rear and Pirelli MT21 or Dunlop D606 front. You'll have to change the front out before the end of your trip likely but fronts are cheap. If you're not spending too much time in the dirt the Anakees get a thumbs up. I haven't used the Anakee 2s but the originals treated me well.

I'm at 12,300 miles on my stock Bridgestone Battlewings. I've gotten similar miles out of both Anakee's and Metzler Tourances. I know mileage depends on riding style, road conditions, etc. But 3,500 on a rear is insane unless it is a knobby and you ride like a banshee.
