My goal for 2012

Living in new hampshire the riding season can be pretty short so to that end I have made it my goal to ride my GS1200 and forgo the use of my car as much as possible this year.
With a mild winter I was able to start rding every day to work, rain or shine. I have ridden in snow fall, the noreaster and 20 degree temps. People ant work and my wife think I am a bit nuts but soa far it has been great.
Grocery shopping, trips to the gun range etc have all been accomplished with little issues.
My goal is to ride to work till at least the end of Ocotber barring bike problems and snow...
This may not be a strech to some of the hardy souls on this site but my bike has been solo in the parking lot at work 90% of the time so far...

I love it!

The wife and I live in Boston. Sold our only car, an old city beater, last year and have been using the GS and a Zipcar membership ever since. I was already a daily commuter on the bike up until snow and ice season, but I only have to go about 10-20 minutes each way, so I'm not sure it even counts as a commute. More like parking on either end of a big lot.

Hell, last summer our washer broke down and wasn't reparable. I made us wait to get a replacement for 6 months because I "wanted to save us money." Truth is, I just liked riding down tremont street with 20lb laundry sacks strapped in behind me.

The Great Northeast here too. I made the similar commitment last year when I sold my car; this past "winter" certainly helped!

Gotta admit, you could jump in a pool and not be as wet as riding 10 miles in the rain. I'd rather ride cold than wet.

I live on top of a hill so my riding season ends when the ice flows cover the road and make the bike trip a safety concern. I sure you guys know where Fitchburg Ma is and right there the elevation starts to climb and the weather and snow get worse.
I was able to start riding to work in March..

Be Safe

I applaud you and be safe. Just remember there are a lot of brain-dead people on the road - especially here in So Cal where the world revolves around them and their cellphone call. As well, any savings go out the window if you have an incident. Try packing a lunch too. There's a ton of ways to save cash if you try. I need to remind myself that.
