So now that this Alaska thing is official, I'm going to add my planning to this thread as well. I am starting from square one. I'm open to any and all suggestions. If you have been following my thread, you know I'm a bit of a planner, but I know things change. And sometimes not having much of a plan is the best way to go. So I guess I'll try to lay out some framework with options. I think that will be best. Recommendations?

My recommendation is to not get too close to a moose. Because they are cranky.

If you can spare a day in Anchorage, hop the train out to Whittier and take a glacier cruise (watch the videos). The packages are not cheap, but, this boat can really move and the cruise is worth it. You'll see a lot more and they feed you a pretty good meal. Our captain was late to the dock and cranked it WFO at 62mph with 312 passengers.

Matanuska Glacier is another worthwhile destination. You can hike it; something you can't do on others because of federal protection. We rafted the river, the day after. It's a cool place.

I notice you left the Time-Off Type on the form blank, and got a signature on it. Good show - now you can check sick leave!

Remember in one of the opening paragraphs of this awesome thread when I said not to move to Idaho cause it's shitty here? I meant it. Nobody else move here!

Singletrackin' machine today. 78 miles at Danskin OHV less than 35 minutes from my house. This is me "suffering though it."

Yep, pretty challenging at points.

Terry's plug began to foul, so he picked a terrible place to stop and spend a few minutes. It really sucked.

The canyon that we will be looking at is the South Fork of the Boise River. It is a seriously deep canyon that is actually two tiered.

Another terrible spot for a break.

The Trinity mountains are off in the distance and still holding a lot of snow. Melt dammit!

We may or may not have ridden up some stairs to find the shade on the North side.

Photobucket

Boise on the other side of those mountains.

Photobucket

The flatland between Boise and Mountain Home.

Photobucket

Some seriously serious hill climbs. One of them would defeat me in the next few miles. Just couldn't make it today. Sucked a lot of energy up and exhausted me which would cause more problems later.

Problems like this.

And this.

Photobucket

And an almost submersion which caused very wet boots.

Still pressing on. I cleaned the sand out of my vagina and kept on riding. I had a few really fun sections towards the end of the day. Haulin ass over the woops and jumping the water bars.

Terry rockin the KTM!

I hope the sarcasm was dripping in this post. It was a totally awesome day. But seriously, don't move here!

Nice day with the camera. That two tiered canyon on the South Fork of the Boise River is impressive!

Ya, the 18th pic from the start of the RR. Frame it and put it on your wall. Neat area, think I'll move out there!

Me too!

Last week a bunch of us TW (mostly) riders rode Danskin. We departed from Bender and went to Fiddler Flat. We stayed on the ATV trails as we had a trail rider virgin with us. Still fun though. Awesome off-road area, when it ain't hot out! Thanks for sharing.

I'm dying to get out camping!!!!! I don't care where we go. I don't care what we ride. Somebody come with me!!! I am doing the challenge and I haven't started yet, so I will be incorporating some points. We can ride all forest roads, all highway, or gnarly singletrack that an 800 has no business being on. I don't care. I just wanna go and I don't wanna go alone.
