A Helix followed me home today.
Picked up a '98 Helix today for $1400. Under 5k miles, and everything in good shape except for the front plastics which are cracked a little. Plastics are available, but this may go the direction of my other bike, a Honda PC800, which is now a Rat project.
Recently started reading through Battle Scooters again and got bitten by the scooter bug immediately. Looks like I have the ultimate pair of dorky, practical bikes now. SCHWEETNESS Here's the new (old) Helix - My wife suggested I name it SPOCK (which is not a completely illogical idea...) And here is the PC800 (PacRat)

Your PC 800 is really interesting. It's an 80s version where Honda completely shrouded the front brakes. Makes it seems less like a motorcycle. I seem to remember the 90s incarnation had a more traditional front fork.
My Dad had a white Helix for almost 30 years, it is the ultimate dorky/ugly bike. (And I say that in the best way possible.) |

Nice choice! I'm the proud owner of a '98 with 17k on the clock (bought it with 12k). Windburn, where did you find that seat cover?!?

Took it for a short spin yesterday. Can't do much until I get the title transferred and insured. I managed to get to 65 on a quick highway sprint.
I think it is going to take a little getting used to 65-70mph on those tiny little tires! Otherwise a BLAST!

What? Me hurry?

Congrats, PacRat. The HH has a great reputation. Bodywork is readily available, as there are several Chinese clone versions. The Qlink Commuter, CF Moto Fashion plus a couple others use the same body style as the Helix.

The Helix is the best engineered vehicle ever! They didn't really change from the time they came out in the early 80s until they left in the early 00s.
Nice compromise bike. 70mpg, 75mph, room and power for two up, but small enough for errands. Not great at any of them but good at everything.....and you get that cruiser style laid back ride. I spent the four years I had mine dreaming of bigger bikes and now I think I could have stayed with the helix and still done everything I do on the bigger one. Good find, you are gonna love it enough to make up for being one of the ugliest bikes ever made. |

Just got back from Titling, inspection and a short highway ride. Got blasted by a side wind and it was a wake-up! Moves around a little bit more than my PC800...
60mph, fun. 65, still getting used to. 70 - not yet. First impression: YEEEEEEEE-HAAAAAAAAAA!

I've seen 79mph on my Helix... (verified by GPS), it's not as scary as it sounds, really... The side winds, however... holy mother of god... THAT is scary. I was on the highway recently when a sudden blast of wind nearly knocked me into the shoulder, at 70 mph... that'll wake you up!

I've got 65698 miles on my Helix and haven't ridden it in 6 years. I always ride balls to the wall which with no wind is 72 mph. Had it 78 mph on a long downhill with wind. GREAT machine. I've had 93 Mc/'s.
