I'm running 37F 40R, bike's 575, I'm 150. Yeah, it's a torquey bike, the Harley in my sig, and yeah I like rolling on through the corners but I'm typically only in the 3-4k rpms range when in the best twisties.
The PR2 was my NE winter tire, Nov-Apr, so it barely ever got warm to the touch. The Z6 was run down to NC via BRP with a fast group on a May trip, which was also quite cold and wet. We still all burned through tires within 2.5k, assortment of PR2s, Z6s, and PPs. The road surface on the BRP and in NC can be like sandpaper. Bottom line is that if you ride lots and lots of twisties at a spirited pace, you'll destroy tires much faster.... even the centers due to the constantly varying throttle and engine braking. Here's two more short lived PR2/PR3s that visited NC, from other more skilled riders.... clicky and clicky... best I've seen

+4 on Michelin PR2/PR3. I replaced a PR2 rear with a PR3 rear earlier this month before starting a ~7.5k mile trip. It still looks pretty good.

looks like the PR2 has come down in price.
it's only $10 more than a BT-023. I'm going to try the michelin and see how it compares to the bridgestone.

My 2 cents on tyres, R1150 Metz Z6 interact front and rear, Front 9k miles on it and it getting very close to wear bar, the rear has just about 7k and has a bit more rubber on than the front, like the tyres they grip quite well and very confortable.

Pirelli
I know a few folks don't really like them, but I've had really good luck with the Pirellis. I've used the Scorpion Sync on my Buell Firebolt for lots of miles and many of them in the mountains tearing around the curves. Also had them at the track.
My XT Ulysses came with the Pirelli Diablo Strata, which has since been phased out. I got 7,500 out of the rear, mainly due to running it loaded with too low pressure. The front is still on at 11,000. I've now got the replacement on the rear, a Pirelli Angel. It has over 4,000 on it and appears to be just getting broken in. They are great on the highway for long miles (that 4,000 was all highway on a recent trip). They are also good on the curves with good comfort inspiring grip. Since your Triumph is a sport tourer, let's not forget the sport. You're going to want to go fast in the corners, right?

I'd go with PR2s. I appears that PR3s are about the same as PR2s but with an enhanced tread cut and cost a lot more.
I use a PR2 rear and a Pirelli Angel ST on the front because PR2s on the front of my Tiger 1050 sometimes induce a shimmy. I think it's the spacing of the tread cuts on the front that matches the frequency of the front end at 45 mph. |

Thanks for the input guys!
I've tried Pilot Road 2's and although a good tire, I've gotten only about 4,000 - 4,500 out of a rear. This is about the same as I used to get on the Avon Azzaro AV46, which I also liked... The PR2's *might* make my cross country trip but I would rather not sweat the last few days. I am thinking of trying the Shinko 009 Ravens for this trip.. I haven't heard a bad word yet and the reports seem to say they last the longest. I am riding along with a female (on another bike) on the trip, so my pace will be reduced but my heavily loaded bike will wear the tire quicker when I am hill climbing. Can anyone else attest to the Shinko Ravens since the last time this thread was topical? The price can't be beat either...

Shinko now makes a newer ST tire called the 011 Verge. It doesn't take the place of the Raven as I'm pretty sure they are making and selling both. I think the Verge is just a better tire at a slightly higher price,,,,,,,, we'll see as I just mounted a set.
![]() After zipping over to the darkside with my DL and being pleasantly surprised at most aspects {excepting a couple} of the CT I was going to try one on the FJR but as my luck would have it, the Dunlop had on the back crapped during a two up ride in the mountains and the tread started to separate so I stopped by our local bike mecca and they had the Verges in the sizes I needed. The rear wasn't as dirt cheap as the Raven but it was still pretty cheap. I hope I get roughly the same mileage and better traction. So far I can say they do feel better than the Shinko Advance front and Raven rear I normally run and traction so far has been good but I haven't been doing any railing yet, we'll see what happens on that one shortly. I know they have better feel and traction than the Bridgestone/Dunlop takes offs I did have on there!

Tyres
I have a Tiger 1050 and am about to depart on a 6K trip also. I have a PR2 on the rear and a PR3 on the front. I had a PR2 on the rear of my VFR and got 6,500 out of it . Most guys I know are getting more than 6K out of the PR2's so you should be ok. In between long trips I've been using Conti-Motions, touted as "sport touring economy tire". They ARE economical due to the low price; however, the most mileage I can get out of rear is about 3,500. They handle as well or better than some dedicated track tires I have used. Very odd! I don't think any manufacturer should label a tire "sport touring" unless you can generally get over 6k out of them...just my opinion. Good luck on your trip!

On average with decent amount of twisties mixed in, I see about 6500 out of the PR2, and about 6000 on the PR3, but I much prefer the PR3. Pirelli Angel STs lasted about 4k miles to cord, and it was not an enjoyable ride. (Not to mention I hit cord while I was still showing full tread pattern. Stock BT021, front didn't make 4k, rear didn't make 5k. Ran Conti Road Attacks on the Uly, killed them in about 3500. (PR2 made better than 6k) Z6 Interact on the Uly, same tread pattern fail as the Angels, cord in the middle showing full tread pattern. Also not much feedback as you approach the limits of adhesion. Original Z6 was much better at feedback. Don't remember the mileage I got. Trying the Verge now, based on the fronts wear, short of something spectacular, they may outlast the PR2s, but only time will tell. Otherwise a very respectable tire for the money. |

How you been Max?
![]() Anywho,,,, how many mile you seeing on a rear and what bike? ![]() I just tried a B023 front but it was a 60 series rather than a 70 and I hated it and that's saying something considering the crap tire and tire combos I will run at times. Very vague with little feedback when heeled over good. I actually liked teh Shinko Advance better. I know all that could be attributed to the different profile but still, sorta scared me off the B 023s. Seeing you liking them might convince me to try em again but this time with the right profile up front and try a rear for the first time.
