Talking Team Z @ Sunset Desert, Vic, Australia 2012

My first ride on sand. Firstly a big thanks to gadget678 and wild0 for taking me. We headed up to Mildura on the Friday night, bikes were taken up on wild0's ute. except for a couple of early mishaps...cough cough (my bike was leaning over just a wee bit to give wild0's a bit of a hug) we got there without incident.

Team z before departure day 1 (left to right, mud lovin fool, wild0 (the mature one...), gadget678)

Saturday morning we geared up and headed out, first stop was the bakery for a nutritious pie for breaky. it was then off to the sunset desert to do some riding. just before we got into the park proper wild0 came within centimeters of a roo, traveling at about 100 it would not have been pretty. While we were stopped I noticed that my bike was relieving itself of some coolant...bugger a hose clamp later and all was fine though. Thankfully this was the only mechanical issue for the trip.

We then got into the park proper

We started of with some easier tracks (not really sandy)

We got down to a salt lake and had some fun sliding around on that, no pics unfortunately.
We continued on for a bit more till we got to a spot to stop for a bit of a breather.

From there we started getting into some deeper sand going through some tighter tracks, with some overhanging branches. We would also come across these holes in the track every now and then

After this stretch we hit fence line track which had some quite soft sand in it and lots of whoops.

Stopped for lunch at hattah

Broken bit of KLR

After lunch we took the railway track back in to mildura, this also has an enduro track winding through it. lots of fun but I was knackered by this stage so making silly mistakes and going slow.

Day 2 started pretty slowly but eventually we got back to the sunset, we took the bikes in the ute this time as we would be leaving for melb that arvo. Unfortunately gadget678 bailed early so missed out on us stuffing around.

Packing up the ute to go

And here are some pics of wild0 being well...wild0

Next time I'm gunna try and tag along, its not fair everyone else riding in my back yard without me

I used that fence line track as a test track when building my cross country race bikes 15 years ago, it was much more overgrown then

Was an absolute blast, it's a shame it is so far from melbourne. I'm looking forward to the next trip up already.

This part's not quite true... gadget and I sort of chucked Phil into the deep end The track around the lake is a bitch at the best of times with a lot of deep sandy whoops.

Phil did really well and we were very impressed considering it was his first ride in sand.

Great ride with great company.
