To fly under the radar, yeah, a quiet bike with headlight, taillight, and plate, will do the trick; but if you cross paths with the wrong cop at the wrong time it won't pass muster. |

I'm tied up with graduation stuff Saturday and Sunday myself but Monday could work if I get home early enough tomorrow to get the rest of the wrenching done and a little shake out ride in! Hate to just jump on it and go but I guess I have done worse stuff in my life...

Tri-Star 2012 Sparta, NC
Ok, I've decided what I'm doing this weekend. I'm headed down to Sparta, NC on the ST1300 for the MSTA Tri-Star Rally in Sparta, NC
From MSTA website: "The MSTA rally "Tri-Star" is based out of the Alleghany Inn in Sparta, NC at 341 North Main Street on US 21. Sparta in the northwest North Carolina's Blue Ridge Mountains is nestled between the New River and the Blue Ridge Parkway, offering scenic vistas, unspoiled landscape and friendly folk. Named Tri-Star because you’re only a few miles from the States of Virginia and Tennessee. So come and enjoy the scenic beauty and miles and miles of great twisty mountain roads. See registration form for event fees and pre-registration discount. Join us for a Friday evening cookout and Saturday evening BBQ dinner. Lots of things to do in the area for those not interested in riding A great way to spend your Memorial Day Weekend."

To meet the seldom enforced litany of crap your dual sport needs to satisfy an anal-retentive cop with the ORC memorized, you need: 1 headlight. 1 mirror. 1 tail light 1 license plate illumination light 2 red reflectors (unless part of the tail light) 1 brake light, either hand or foot operated 1 horn, to be audible from 200 feet (air horn taped to handlebar meets this criteria, wink wink) 1 muffler with baffle plate 4 turn signals (if your scoot was manufactured after 1968) Basically, buy a Tusk DS kit from Rocky Mountain ATV and you're good to go, even for fastidious officers who know all the rules. If you've been to any organized dual sport in the state you'll observe about 200 bikes that don't even come close to meeting that list. Proceed at own risk. |

Went down southeast today. Past through some known good tar hallow roads en route to Richland furnace APV area. Tar Hallow is DRY!!!!!
Richland furnace is only minutes from some of the Southern-most TH roads, kinda surprised we've never hit it while down roaming. It's pretty small though, definately not worth a trip just for that. I believe I rode every marked trail, both directions, in just over an hour. The trails are full of never ending little jumps. Pretty fun, but they get a bit annoying. Other than that, really nothing technical or difficult. I came home and replaced my other fork seal. It's been seeping for a month, but after all that jumping around it was pretty much a steady drip. I also noticed my chain guard / swingarm protector is completely worn out. It looked fine a couple weeks ago. Dammit. |

Once again, if you are converting a dirt bike to street legal in Ohio the bike is only required to have the equipment listed on the 'Change of Body Code Affidavit' that you fill out at the title office.
-headlight with high/low beam -brake light -mirror -horn Turn signals are not required for converted bikes in Ohio.
