05.25 Irbit
Early morning I arrived at Irbit after 2 flights from the south. Nicolai is there after 3000km with the Gear Up. (His pictures and report latter). On the car park of the Hotel we met with Ilya. Then we went to clean the Ural, one young guy start to discuss with us (UDF even in Irbit) and he ask us if we know the "bike cemetery"? Why not? So we went with him, we didn't know he was a policeman himself until he open the locked gate to the "cimetery". In fact it's at the local police station where they have all the bikes immobilized for various infractions, many of the owners never came back to collect their bikes as the total amount of the parking bill is higher than the price of the bike... Then back to factory for a visit at the nearby Ural museum. The Retro should be ready by the end of the afternoon. After 3000km: ![]() Police station: ![]() ![]() Museum: ![]() ![]() Retro: ![]() ![]() The Retro was ready by 9pm but we were already back at the hotel and we will pick it this morning. --------------- All pictures on FB: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?s...2073138&type=3

Wow that's a good looking Ural, looks low and mean..... :) I bet it drives very nice on pavement, much better than my Gear Up thru the corners and such.... Maybe we should all have two Urals, one Gear Up and one Retro, heheh. Two Urals would cost the same as one new Harley or BMW.....

05.26 - Irbit / Yekaterinburg - 250km
We took delivery of the Ural this morning, done some pictures inside the factory territory then at the entrance of the town with the monument. Nice ride to Yekaterinburg, lovely weather and road in good condition and few cars. At the arrival in town we wait for some friends to guide to us to their garage, the Gear Up needed an oil change. In the evening we went to visit the center town with them and back to the hotel. ![]() ![]() ![]() 05.27 - Yekaterinburg / Perm - 350km This morning departure under a very dark sky,, first stop at the monument with the border Asia/Europe. Just after we were back on the road, the rain start and didn't stop until we reach Perm... For the first 200km the road was in good condition, police stop us twice at the check-points, once just to see the documents and the second they invited us to go inside to write the informations about our Ural. The reason: an Ural (old) were declared stolen in the area... The policeman ask us "how do you find our roads", we answer: "nice, you have good roads". But not even one kilometer after the check-point the rodeo start... not very funny under the rain... diffcult to find the good trajectory to avoid all the holes. At our arrival at Perm we have done the servicing for the Retro, you see I am on the learning curve: last year first oil change for the engine at 1300km (GearBox and FD at 3000) this year all 3 at 550km. Just after we went to the center town and found one hotel. Tomorrow we will try to get to Kazan. ![]() ![]() ![]()

05.28 - Perm / Kirov
We left the hotel by 8am with the intention to reach Kazan, but a few kilometers after Perm there was an indication for an other itinerary, shorter by 100km. So we decided to try it... It was not really a good idea. First the road is in bad to very bad condition on 70% Second we encounter some "problems" It start with a shortage of fuel... if you remember Nicolai loose the 10l jerycan in Tatarstan, and we didn't replace it. So the Gear Up stop first then I continue a little but less than 2km same I stop at a junction to a very small village. Two options either I walk to the village or I push the bike on the road until the bridge where I can see some workers. The second option was a good choice, as soon I arrive to the bridge all the workers came to watch the Ural, they told me that the nearest gas station is at 20km, not on the main road. I explain them the situation with our 2 Ural and they give me 5l of benzine. No phone coverage in the area so I can't tell Nicolai. So I went to this village get the tank full +4l in a jerycan and back. In fact when I arrive to the bridge I saw Nicolai who manage to push the bike on 2km... At this stage again 2 options, either we go to the gas station to fill Nicolai's tank or we continue on the main road to the next village at almost 100km. We decided to try it, so I give him 8l from my tank. So reach this village and refuelled the Urals. But the main event of the day is the Nicolai's "figure" on a bad section. To avoid the holes you have to drive on the opposite line but he was "surprised" by a car and he brake a little to hard turning the side to the right side: the chair fly in a second and he stop in front of the car 's bumper... He didn't overtunr, he was just on the side... Nicolai stand up, everything ok. Same for the Gear Up, the cylinder protection do his work and no damage on the Ural... After a short break we continue to Kirov. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
